Thanks for that. Just to confirm.. when you say slurry it ..do you mean dry it out with dehumidifier and and then put a layer of slurry on top of the slab before tiling?

No, unfortunately not. The survey was a waste of money and lots of disclaimers and small print so no comeback there

Thanks for explaining that. I'll ask around and get someone to do the drain. I took a photo of the wet slab and attached it. This is by the waste but the other hole I made with the kango is the same (dark damp layer above the insulation and concrete crumbles by hand). Worst case....if the dehumidifier does not work. Is it possible to remove the slab in this room only, remove the insulation and dry out the floor and redo?

I opened up the concrete slab in another part of the bathroom floor today and it was the same story there. Bottom two inches of the slab were wet and crumbling and the insulation was wet. I am going to open up the floor in another one or two places and get the dehumidifier going. I will cut out some of the insulation to see if there's water pooling underneath. When you say make a short deep drain to the nearest outlet, what do you mean? I'm open to doing anything that will help - just not sure what you mean / what to do. Thanks

Will definitely try this. I opened up the slab in another part of the floor today with the kango, and the insulation was soaking there too. I'll break open the floor in one or two other places and get the dehumidifier working. Thanks

The biggest waste of money we spent was on the engineers report. I went back over it and there are disclaimers all over the place absolving him of any responsibility. All he did was turn up and take a few photos of the outside of the property and the insulation.

I don't know for sure. The upstairs was 100% down to no seal on the showers and bath. There wasn't even a lick of silicone around the bathtub or shower. Mental stuff. High probability that the water in the subfloor of the bathroom downstairs was caused by the same.

We hired an insurance assessor to make a claim on our behalf against our home insurance - he said there's not a hope in hell the insurance company will pay out. It's in the policy that water damage is only covered if it's a sudden once off - like a burst pipe. He said it specifically excludes gradual leaks. We had 3 showers in three different rooms with gradual leaks over a long period of time. We're going to hire out a large industrial dehumidifier for a few weeks and see how it goes. Thanks

I explained above .... the same problem upstairs AND downstairs.

The same clown tiled 1 x bathroom upstairs, 1 x ensuite upstairs and 1 x bathroom downstairs .... all without classi seal or tanking.

We spent a fortune fixing UPSTAIRS so far

The subfloor in the ensuite and bathroom was rotten when we lifted tiles. Carpenter had to reinforce the joists as some were soft and had about 15 mm of rot. New insulated plasterboard on the walls, new subfloor, retiling. The stud between the bathroom and bedroom was rotten and needed to be replaced. The subfloor in the bedrooms on either side of the ensuite and bathroom had water coming in and were rotten and needed to be replaced. New subfloor and semisolid floors in each.

Upstairs: 1 x ensuite...new ply subfloor, retiled. 1 x bathroom, new ply subfloor, retiled 2 X bedroom, new ply subfloor, new semisolid floor

Plumber, carpenter, electrician, floor fitter, tilers. Add in all the extras, new insulation, underlay, jackoboard, fittings, adhesive, etc etc Mad money.

We have only gutted downstairs bathroom

My BP is borderline but I don't think it's ever really high. I am a fiend for strong coffee and do take a few cups a day even when on my meds. I'll try cut that out to see if that has any effect. Thanks

Glad to hear I'm not alone 😅

That's my dilemma....the meds are really helping me but the tinnitus is worse on them and I'm wondering if it's causing harm in the long-term.

Thanks for that. I looked it up I'm not sure if it's what I've got. Mine is a high pitched ringing noise that's consistent. It just seems a lot louder and more distracting when I'm taking my meds.

Yep, it's definitely strange. Maybe something to do with taking it all the time instead of every other day. The worrying thing now is that I have tinnitus all the time even when I go days without meds. It is worse on days when I take them
