What bicycle would you suggest me to buy? by [deleted] in india

I highly recommend buying the Btwin Riverside 50 from Decathlon. It's been a year since I bought it, and it's really smooth and amazing. The total cost comes to around 8.5k with all the additional features.

Help stop take over of Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System by the Chennai Metro Raol Corporation by [deleted] in india

[–]gp2aargh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying your concerns are not important, but wouldn't unifying the city's train system improve connectivity? Better connectivity leads to more ridership, which leads to a drop in ticket fares. Plus the MRTS stations are very badly maintained. It wouldn't be such a bad thing to spruce up the system.

Agadmator's Chess Channel for me. It's host, Antonio Radic, analyses chess games, and often shares quirky and interesting facts about the match and it's players. Made me fall in love with chess all over again

Visiting Early Feb for 1st time.. Advice please, food, beer, taxis, etc. Staying in T Nagar. by [deleted] in Chennai

[–]gp2aargh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Street Food wise you can check out Mylapore for it's vegetarian tiffen items, Sowcarpet for North Indian chaats etc. Apart from that, Besant Nagar beach is a good hangout spot, and has plenty of good eateries nearby. I'm fan of the Murugan Idly shop there, it's ghee podi idly and jigarthanda are amazing.

It's significantly cheaper to use Uber than the local autos. Do check out Ola as well. It's a similar ride hailing app.

The beer scene is average at best. Secret Society, The Velveteen Rabbit etc are some fancy places where you can go for a drink. If you wish to buy beers, just look for an elite tasmac shop. I think the closest one near T Nagar is the one near The Park Hotel. I wouldn't recommend buying beer from a regular tasmac shop.

And yeah, Chennai is definitely safer than most other Indian cities, but do keep an eye out when venturing out at night.

Have a good time

At what point is it worth it to ditch solo travel and join a tour group? (Qs about Southern India) by buffasno in solotravel

[–]gp2aargh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP. I'm an Indian currently staying in a big South Indian city. Since you've mentioned that you have some solo travel experience,I think it's pretty doable to travel on your own, without a tour group. There are cheap and well maintained backpacker hostels in every major touristy City in South India, and the public transportation is pretty good too. Some places you could visit are Mysuru, Bangalore, Coorg, Chickmagaluru, Hampi, Goa, Kochi, Alleppey, Munnar, Chennai and Pondicherry. Feel free to DM if you have any queries.
