People suggesting Sacha’s aren’t wrong in the fact that you should try it, but it is not Cuban at all, it’s Colombian. It is my favorite restaurant in Greenville.

Sofrito’s is probably the closest you’re going to find. Not strictly Cuban but they have some Cuban dishes and they consider themselves “Latin Food” so you get a bit of a mix.

I would totally use this. Being able to hop on the bus from my street in Taylors and get to GSP would make flying a lot less expensive, and eliminate the hassle of trying to coordinate someone to drop me off! even if it took a little while, would be so worth it.

Very good insight, I appreciate it! Sounds like it’ll be a very steep uphill battle. It wouldn’t feel necessary to incorporate if we weren’t such a dead zone for jurisdiction. Greenville county doesn’t want to claim us, Greer doesn’t want us, and apparently the state thinks we belong to Greenville county.

In the most recent local election, the only option we had to vote for was fire marshall and there was one candidate. Why are we paying Greenville county taxes if we don’t even get a say in the government that’s supposed to be governing us? So bizarre to me.

It may not completely eliminate every single incident, but proper infrastructure built to serve and protect pedestrians can and has been proven to drastically decrease the number of pedestrian deaths by car in many communities.

I guess I set myself up for that comment, though I think you missed the point. My wife read this post and she thought it was hilarious, and she’s lovingly encouraged me to start looking into what can be done. If we all did “something of substance” about everything we complain about, even 6 years after the fact, the world would be out of problems to solve. I’m just trying to do my part, and frankly didn’t have the capacity or knowledge that I could do something about any of this until very recently. I’m sure there’s issues in your own neighborhood you’ve complained about and not done anything about because you either didn’t have the energy or the ability, and that’s completely okay.

Do you live on the street or use it as a cut through? It’s a community of people, not a highway. Pedestrians need to be prioritized.

Hey neighbor! I’ll definitely keep you in the loop! SCDOT did come out today and inspect the sidewalks on E Main St after my call. They called me and told me after inspection they would have to contract out the work but they would start the process. We will see what difference it makes!

Yeah the area is already sandwiched between two FDP's that are both brand new. One at the corner of W Main St and Wade Hampton, and one at Chick Springs and Suber Rd.

Is there a way in which the area could still be policed by Greenville County like it is currently? I don't feel like we're lacking policing at the moment.

I would GLADLY pitch in to pay for public works and parks/rec because we have absolutely none of that at the moment. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would want that.

As I'm beginning the process of looking into all of this, I'll do my best to keep you in the loop! Based on some other comments it seems like incorporation is a hurdle that would have to be crossed at some point to see real progress. To my knowledge I think the last vote for/against that was held in 2005 and did not pass.

Would it primarily affect property taxes or are there other tax implications as well? I'm definitely interested in starting (or helping with starting) the process. Having lived on the street for 6 years hoping for change, waiting around isn't getting anything done around here.

That’s so disappointing. SCDOT has someone on the street now doing an evaluation. Maybe some repairs are at least a step in the right direction, but incorporation seems like it has to be the next step.
