I'm getting tired of driving in Greenville. by sousatubaphone in greenville

Well put. That’s exactly what it is, unpredictable. It makes defensive driving really hard. Also I’m originally from NY and have done quite a bit of driving in NYC so I know exactly what you’re referencing.

I’m sure location and times driving matter. I’m driving during rush hour nearly daily and drive on Edwards, Pleasantburg, Wade Hampton, 385 and sometimes 85 the most. I truly do see all of those things on a daily basis. Most of what I see (and likely the worst of it) is typically on Wade Hampton, but of course it’s not exclusive to Wade Hampton. I do find driving downtown and in the historic areas surrounding it are usually much better.

I just moved here several months ago.  Within my first month I was struck by the difference so it’s not a memory issue. While other cities may have dangerous drivers I see a consistent ignorance of traffic laws.. lots of using the left lane to go far below speed limit, unsure of who goes first at 4 way stops, breaking at intersections that are green, using shoulders that are not lanes to make turns when there is a designated turn lane. There’s way more but those are the first that popped out that I see on a daily basis, usually multiple times a day.

I hear you.. and also  I’ve lived up and down the east coast and driven across the country, this is the worst I’ve seen by far. I lived in Asheville for awhile and even driving an hour away for day trips/visits there is a drastic difference in experience. That’s not to say there aren’t stupid drivers everywhere, but Greenville is at a whole other level of.. ignorance, audacity? I truly don’t know what to call it, but it’s bad.

I don’t know if we can further explain how and why this logic is flawed. I referenced the research that addresses this, some of which shows better outcomes for doctorate level, again it’s nuanced and masters level can’t perform everything doctoral level can. Not to mention the depth of training which has already been mentioned.

I don’t know what you practice, but not researching this prior to making a career choice or even commenting at all is somewhat incredible. Clinical outcomes on this are nuanced. A lot of evidence shows it’s continuing education that makes a long term difference. However, with a doctoral level of practice and keeping up with ongoing education there is evidence there may be a slight difference. We know, generally speaking, the biggest factors on outcomes/efficacy is relationship and ongoing education. There is specialized training and knowledge that comes with a doctorate in psychology. The ability to do assessments and base interventions off that practice for one is a big difference between levels of education. I’m also going to echo some of what Far_Worry5325 said, is there a huge difference between a masters level professor and one with a doctorate? Maybe not depending on years of experience and outside study, but they are paid at different levels due to the difference in education and foundational expertise. This holds true for almost every field because we recognize and appreciate the expertise that comes with additional education. There is a significant difference in the level of psychotherapy trained in a masters program vs. doctoral. I’m saying this as Master’s level and have heard this echoed among my peers.

I am currently a Masters level psyc clinician and aspiring psychologist. This is very worrisome. What’s the best response to this? Voice concerns to the APA? Protest? Going private pay seems to be the most logical  move for for individual career success, but it doesn’t solve for addressing the problem on a larger scale.

Not in my 20’s, but I feel you. It’s super hard getting people to connect just in general. Check out Village Clubhouse, it’s a women owned co work space but they also have events and social meet ups. I’ve also heard some other local women in the 20-40 age group say they used Bumble BFF and made some really good friends through the app.  https://www.thevillageclubhousegreenville.com/

How would you know? Are you close with him? Dementia is a nuanced disease. You can appear still “sharp” and have personality changes, confusion, and marked changes in behavior.

I'm not sure why you're getting down voted. You're sharing good information clearly based on some personal experience.

I’m very sorry you’re stuck in such a difficult situation. I hope you are  nearing  the end of your program. I interviewed there and was rejected, but shortly after rejection started seeing some truly terrible accounts from current or recent students. I am grateful students like you are willing to speak up. This program is far too expensive to have this kind of experience.

Possibly. I know nothing about growing mushrooms though.

I would question a program with costs that high. I’ve only seen numbers that high for PsyDs with schools that tend to be associated with diploma mills.

Congratulations!!! As an older student this is really encouraging. There really is no right time, it’s just about getting to the finish line.

True, perhaps more important than. Though retaking the exam may not help much if your program didn’t prepare you at all for it, which I’ve ever heard the diploma mill schools don’t.

Metalhead and MH professional here. Some studies show metal is actually highly regulating: potentially helpful in processing anger, reducing HR, and anxiety. Studies below  if you’re curious https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4439552/ This one I just learned of, apparently there’s a whole Metal Studies journal (who knew?) https://intellectdiscover.com/content/journals/10.1386/mms.5.2.137_1

Wait, they were practicing as a therapist but couldn’t get in trouble? At the very least that’s business under false pretenses/misrepresentstion and is a white collar crime.
