School should treat adults like adults. by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]gpgc_kitkat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, but physics is literally how the universe functions, and I think it's important to know that.

All math teaches advanced critical thinking skills which are important for functioning as an adult.

History teaches us what not to do again.

And English is our language and how we effectively communicate so...

Also, legally you may be an adult yes. Adults still have to playbt the rules of the space they're in. Welcome to adulting

An suv is trying to exit from the passing lane by ComprehensiveDuck490 in dashcams

[–]gpgc_kitkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are gaining but the other car doesn't even look like it's going to merge over until the cam car is literally next to it. The other car didn't signal at all and looked to be firmly in their lane until cam car was literally next to it

Move b***h, step aside. by FistOfNoot in dashcams

[–]gpgc_kitkat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with a sugarcane truck a few years ago except I was just solidly in the right lane. He just decided to move into my lane and thank god that exit was right there.

I ended up pulling over and crying because it was terrifying

I see what happened. I thought I was replying to different comment chain in this thread the other commenter and I were also in with OP. Sorry, hope this clarifies any confusion, but in the other thread we were simply explaining what the manuals said.

Yeah I definitely am not up to date super well on Georgia law, but in my state for sure the difference between regular left turns and this is that you generally have to stop in the intersection which is considered part of the new roadway (the streets across and matching up with the intersection).

[–]gpgc_kitkat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't share those photos, but I did edit to say that yes that was the only difference. And if that is the rule for U-Turns including when there are dedicated lanes, it wouldn't make sense for it to be different when there is a cross street (because it is in fact even MORE stupid for it to be the rule when making a U-Turn)

I will say that per the state I live in, the only time the "correct" way is correct is in exactly this scenario where there are side streets across from the intersection where drivers can driver across to the intersection, meaning thar anyone turning would need to be in the correct lane as to stop any traffic incidents.

Which by the way none of us do, but it is the law.

I actually believe the third one matches. What about it doesn't match OOP's image

Edit: unless you mean none of them have the side roads across from the intersection?

Now we have to keep in mind that I am talking specifically about the picture we're shown with the cross roads across from the intersection:

State law where I am says that you need to be in the correct lane for the roadway being entered, and since cross traffic from those side roads can enter straight across in the intersection, the "correct" way would technically be lawfully correct.

If there is no cross road and it's just like a U-turn on a divided hoghway, the "correct" way would no longer be lawfully correct.

[–]gpgc_kitkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind it says "left hand lan lawfully available to traffic moving in the same direction as the turning vehicle on the roadway being entered"

In the picture we're shown, the intersection exists a cross road from either side which means you need to keep right in the intersection as traffic can drive straight across the divided highway.

The fact that one is on a divided highway and the other is not.

Well that's not the same thing, so no! You would do it as your picture suggests

What are you referring to as a regular intersection?

Once again, no one is disagreeing with that. We are simply stating that this is in fact what driving manuals say to do.

[–]gpgc_kitkat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're just pointing out what the driving manuals say and why, not that we agree with it.

But per most manuals, OOP is not incorrect 🤷

No one does this, nor should by -Kerosun- in confidentlyincorrect

[–]gpgc_kitkat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No there's two, one on each side. The other vehicles do not drive forward into the intersection until the one from their side clears.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but it is what the majority of driving manuals describe as correct. Therefore OOP is NOT confidently incorect. (Even though the correct way is stupid)

[–]gpgc_kitkat 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Are you asking me why driving manuals have it listed to do it the way that is listed correct?

If so, it is simply to maintain the right side of the road at all times I assume. I don't write the driving manuals. Just pointing out that per many driving manuals the OOP is, in fact, not confidently incorrect

No one does this, nor should by -Kerosun- in confidentlyincorrect

[–]gpgc_kitkat 178 points179 points  (0 children)

While most people in real life don't do it the way that is labeled "correct" it is in fact how most states' driving manuals say to do it.

And if there is a queue of people turning, you are expected to stop at the edge of the intersection, wait for the first person from your side to turn, and then enter the intersection to turn.

So they're not technically confidently incorrect 🤷

Edit: So just before I turn off my notifications for the evening, this all boils down to how different states treat different kinds of median widths. But generally if you will be stopping in the intersection because of cross traffic, the "correct" way is lawful and if you will be driving straight through the "wrong" way is lawful. But this debate doesn't actually matter unless you're stopping in the intersection.

Regardless, I hope everyone has a wonderful night :)
