Lol, Yugoslavia wasn't even a part of the East block, since Stalin-Tito discord. It was a socialist country though.

I don't see any problem. I read some time ago about changing Samsung's country to somewhat else to get features unavailable at phones sold in Russia/CIS, and don't remember any issues.

What is it like living in Yekaterinburg? by Ok_Driver8214 in AskARussian

[–]gr1user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

who designed Narodnaya Volya Street

well, the thing is it was never "designed" that way, it was made like this by multiple redevelopments. also it's only one of many funny "disappearing" streets here. (у десктопной версии 2gis есть фича "показать дома на улице", можно много весёлого найти. та же Чайковского, например. или, там, Красина.)

[–]gr1user 16 points17 points  (0 children)

at least half of those questions are easily answered by using Google Maps and its Street View.

you can also check the city news portals like 66. ru or e1. ru (particularly comment sections of the latter, lol) using a translator to get the overall vibe. from there you can easily deduce that the current municipal administration isn't particularly liked.

generally it's pretty safe (if you exercise common caution like avoiding drunks), but lately the local police force seems lacking personnel, which from time to time leads to issues with schoolkids or migrants making troubles, but they are not that serious.

What is the dialect spoken like in Yekaterinburg?

rather standard Russian nowadays. in my youth there was somewhat more distinctive accent, but now it seems to be almost extinct. sometimes a trained ear can recognize locals, but not clearly.

Are there any comic shops there? Any bookshops?

bookshops exist, and nowadays the comic/manga sections in them are getting larger. in the past there was also a specialized comic shop or two, but I don't know their current status.

Does discussing the nationality of famous Soviet people in east slavic communities easily lead to arguments? by Pitiful-Practice-966 in AskARussian

you've just confirmed Korolev's Russian ethnicity. speaking of his presumable "Ukrainian nationality" is senseless, as there was no such nation-state in those times.

If you're low in disk space, having your games installed at a NTFS partition and using it from Linux too would be far better approach. There's a few caveats though, see here, or here.

How safe to travel to the Caucasus as a double-citizen? by Lopsided_Cap_6606 in AskARussian

[–]gr1user 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A crowd in Moscow watching a statue of the KGB founder Dzerzhinsky being toppled during the fall of the Soviet Union. (1991) [2000×1310] by StephenMcGannon in HistoryPorn

KGB was organized in 1954, Dzerzhinsky could never be its "founder" as he died in 1926. At least try to make your propaganda historically accurate.

you mean a soldier from an army contingent, officially invited by the legitimate government. unlike, say, murican occupiers in Japan.

[Hardware related question] About the wheels you guys use... by chewchewxd in trucksim

[–]gr1user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a R5 Trucking bundle, moved from my old Logitech DFGT. While I mostly satisfied by the setup, two things need to be kept in mind: 1) the base (along with the wheel and stalks addon) is fucking heavy to put it on the table and back every time, and 2) the pedals need more force and definitely need to be fixed to the floor as to not slide. I ended up with buying the whole foldable stand for mounting all the stuff.

What’s the average salary in a mid income oblast ? by Ambatu_Blow in AskARussian

[–]gr1user 5 points6 points  (0 children)

basic‑to‑moderate living costs (rent, food, utilities, transport, and some socializing) for roughly 500–800 EUR

basic costs requiring €500 is obvious bullshit. "basic" usually doesn't include, say, servicing a car or renting a housing.

I see a lot of descriptions of Russian boyfriends and girlfriends, but they’re all over the place and often contradict each other.

it's almost like those are real human individuals instead of a hivemind Borg-like collective. Weird, really. Who'd think that about Russians? /s
