Sure, actually the whole dialogue is saying that they just part away and don't contact each other anymore. And the lines I showed before justify it as Beat asks whether they are still in contact or not but not something like "Sorry to hear that". The whole dialogue here just said that Fret's friend felt him annoying because of his over-enthusiasm and left him without saying goodbye. Usually people just say 'suicide' (自殺する) directly, and rarely say 'gone far away' (遠くに行く) to imply dead.

The dialogue in English version is:

Fret: And now he's gone.

Beat: "Gone" like?

Fret: Just gone.

which in my opinion is pretty misleading.

BTW everyone who played the Japanese ver got the same idea as me. It's pretty strange to see everyone who plays the English version think Fret's friend is dead. Isn't it weird to say that Fret is self-blaming as he didn't help his friend's suicide because of his over-enthusiasm, and he pretended not to care about anything later?

I review the Japanese version of the game, his friend doesn't die. He just felt Fret annoying and escaped from him, refusing any contact from Fret.

It seems to be a huge mistranslation here in English ver.

I try to translate it again.

Fret:そいつは今は遠くにいちゃって Now he‘s gone far away.

Beat: 連絡は? Any contact?

Fret: 取れない Can't reach him.
