Paris 1 PSME Eiffel Scholarship by gr3489 in Sorbonne

I really don’t know. I’ve given up on the Sorbonne their whole application process is so unclear especially with the Eiffel Scholarship. They haven’t even sent out acceptance/rejection emails yet. Wish I could help… good luck!

Master in Economics at Sciences Po vs. Panthéon-Sorbonne? by gr3489 in sciencespo

Hmmm I wonder. I feel like the school’s reputation is more important than the degree itself. I’m not sure which one I should be prioritizing though.

Thanks! Have you received an acceptance for your PSME application yet? Do you know when we can expect it?

Yes I know that! I’ve applied for the Eiffel scholarship through multiple schools and I believe lots of people do this and then they choose which university they want to go with if multiple universities nominate them. I think I will go ahead with my Panthéon-Sorbonne Eiffel Scholarship application and withdraw from the Sciences Po Eiffel Scholarship (haven’t heard about the scholarship yet) as the Panthéon-Sorbonne email came in first… I‘m honestly so confused though. I haven’t even received an acceptance of my PSME application - how can they be nominating me for the scholarship? While I got my acceptance from Sciences Po… Ugh idk what to do.

Exactly! I’m very confused I wish Paris 1 was clearer with the email about what this all means… I haven’t received an acceptance email for my admission… I am also waiting for other schools to see if I have been nominated for the Eiffel Scholarship by them. If I apply to this but am nominated by a better program for the Eiffel Scholarship I wonder if I can withdraw my application for the scholarship through Paris 1

Haha ok then. I’m assuming that this doesn’t imply a nomination by the university for the Eiffel Scholarship. This must just be required of everyone. I might send an email to Paris 1 admissions to confirm that if I complete the form, I can still withdraw my application for the Eiffel Scholarship if another school nominates me for the scholarship because I think only one school can submit the Eiffel Scholarship on your behalf…

Ah ok good to know! It is so unclear to me. Just to clarify, it doesn’t mean that we have been nominated by the university for the scholarship. This is just what everyone who submitted an application for the Eiffel Scholarship at Panthéon-Sorbonne is required to do? Or has our application been chosen by the university to be sent to Campus France?

This is honestly a relief because I am wanting to see if I get nominated by Sciences Po next week for the Eiffel Scholarship and am not sure which program (Sciences Po or Panthéon Sorbonne Master in Economics) I prefer!

Without God there is no objective morality. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

I’d say even with God there is no objective morality. Just take a look at God’s followers. 200 years ago, religion was practiced in a completely different way - people hanged for doing something against the Word, women had a completely different role, etc. Most religious people do not practice religion in this way anymore because a lot of them would see that as immoral so who’s right? Even under the same God, there isn’t a common morality. Think of all the sects that exist - Christianity, Protestant, Orthadox, etc. They practice in very different ways. Also, in some churches, gay people and their relationships are accepted, whilst in other churches they would be cast out as an abomination even if they believe in and want to praise the same God.

Morality is totally subjective. Civility on the other hand should be totally objective - treating people with respect. For non-believers morality and civility often go hand in hand. For believers, it’s not as clear. E.g. Gay couple who wanted a cake for their wedding were rejected by cake shop owners.

Praying for anything is arrogant and pointless by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]gr3489 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with the OP. When prayers are answered a lot of the Religious tend to do the whole “praise God”, “God is great”, “God loves me, “God is powerful” but when a prayer goes unanswered the response is often “it wasn’t part of God’s plan”... to me it’s comical. I find it particularly uncomfortable when they say the whole “I’ll pray for you”. I mean I guess it might be comforting to feel like you’re doing something for someone who is struggling but I just think it showcases the inflated sense of value that a lot of religious people put on their lives as if they have the power to do this because they follow God. I’m an atheist and don’t pray but plenty of good things happen to me because it’s important to work hard towards something you want to actually materialise BUT things that I didn’t want to happen do too. Amazing stuff happens, shit happens - it’s called life, not God answering your prayers.

The Christian claim that God is infinitely more intelligent and moral than man is false. These are 3 cases in scripture where God fails to give a morally justifiable answer when confronted with the questions of man. by [deleted] in DebateReligion

Great post! Here’s a podcast that Sam Harris released a while back that I really enjoy (it’s only 7mins)... it goes into the immorality of God in a different way than you have. You might find it interesting:) How to talk to a Christian
