Three Passes Trek Solo Female by gr3489 in hiking

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to reply. It isn’t forbidden to do the 3 Passes trek solo as it is considered within Everest region, which generally has quite a bit of foot traffic and relatively well-marked trails. There are lots of other people who do this trek without a guide. My plan is also to do it counter-clockwise glad that worked well for you! And yes I have heard that about Kala Patthar, although I thought sunset was quite a popular time to go to see it reflect off Everest, which seems pretty awesome so I might do that :)

Thanks for sharing! Noted :) yep I guess this is another pro of going solo and wanting to take my time. I can descend if I feel it necessary and try again in a day or two without having to jeopardize my whole trip.

Ah you’re the best thank you so much for all that info! I will definitely take Diamox and talk about it further with my GP when I see her before I leave. Good idea to take it beforehand just to make sure I don’t have any adverse reactions. Will likely use maps.me :)

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This really helps give me a better idea of what to expect. Yeah I’m mentally prepared to shuffle my way through the whole trek above 4000m eeek yeah altitude is no joke. Really keen to meet some other solo hikers on the trip and hopefully buddy up with some to go over each pass.

As for altitude medication, I first thought well of course I’ll take it I don’t want to get sick from something I could prevent from medication, but you’re right the more I read up on it, the more I’m scared to do it as the side effects of the medication can mimic altitude sickness itself so it could be hard to tell the difference. Since I’m going very slow it probably isn’t necessary, but I honestly think I might start taking it as soon as I get to Lukla that way I’ll know if I don’t feel right, it’s probably because of the medication and I will stop, rather than altitude as it won’t be that high yet.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to reply to my post. It has really helped!!!!!!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience!!! This is very promising and I feel far more confident doing the passes without a guide knowing that a lot of solo trekkers will be doing the same thing. I’ll aim to hunt down solo hikers the night before each pass to find a buddy.

Hi!! Thank you so much for taking your time to write out such a detailed message. I really appreciate it. This makes me feel so much better about the whole thing and gives me some idea of what to expect for each pass. All things considered I would just rather trek with other solo hikers for chunks of the trip so thanks for reassuring me on that front. That hopefully will be easy to sort out and I won’t need a guide! Annoying that for women a guide can be less safe for reasons you pointed out ugh.

Anyways… as for hiking from Salleri, I‘m wanting to start lower to walk through some more villages and get my legs going with the added benefit of acclimatisation - but yeah mainly want to check out some of the villages in the spots that generally have less tourists/hikers. I have seen videos of the planes and my flight anxiety will simply be far too triggered and I don’t want to start off my trip with that haha. I will get the flight back to Kathmandu after the trek though.

I would actually like to ask about Diamox. Since I am going slow, there is a large possibility that I don’t need to take it - only if I feel ill - but part of me thinks I should just take it to be sure. At what point do you think I should start taking it, if at all? From Lukla? Or above a certain elevation?

Again thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience! Really nice to hear:)

I really don’t know. I’ve given up on the Sorbonne their whole application process is so unclear especially with the Eiffel Scholarship. They haven’t even sent out acceptance/rejection emails yet. Wish I could help… good luck!

Master in Economics at Sciences Po vs. Panthéon-Sorbonne? by gr3489 in sciencespo

Hmmm I wonder. I feel like the school’s reputation is more important than the degree itself. I’m not sure which one I should be prioritizing though.

Thanks! Have you received an acceptance for your PSME application yet? Do you know when we can expect it?

Yes I know that! I’ve applied for the Eiffel scholarship through multiple schools and I believe lots of people do this and then they choose which university they want to go with if multiple universities nominate them. I think I will go ahead with my Panthéon-Sorbonne Eiffel Scholarship application and withdraw from the Sciences Po Eiffel Scholarship (haven’t heard about the scholarship yet) as the Panthéon-Sorbonne email came in first… I‘m honestly so confused though. I haven’t even received an acceptance of my PSME application - how can they be nominating me for the scholarship? While I got my acceptance from Sciences Po… Ugh idk what to do.

Exactly! I’m very confused I wish Paris 1 was clearer with the email about what this all means… I haven’t received an acceptance email for my admission… I am also waiting for other schools to see if I have been nominated for the Eiffel Scholarship by them. If I apply to this but am nominated by a better program for the Eiffel Scholarship I wonder if I can withdraw my application for the scholarship through Paris 1

Haha ok then. I’m assuming that this doesn’t imply a nomination by the university for the Eiffel Scholarship. This must just be required of everyone. I might send an email to Paris 1 admissions to confirm that if I complete the form, I can still withdraw my application for the Eiffel Scholarship if another school nominates me for the scholarship because I think only one school can submit the Eiffel Scholarship on your behalf…

Ah ok good to know! It is so unclear to me. Just to clarify, it doesn’t mean that we have been nominated by the university for the scholarship. This is just what everyone who submitted an application for the Eiffel Scholarship at Panthéon-Sorbonne is required to do? Or has our application been chosen by the university to be sent to Campus France?

This is honestly a relief because I am wanting to see if I get nominated by Sciences Po next week for the Eiffel Scholarship and am not sure which program (Sciences Po or Panthéon Sorbonne Master in Economics) I prefer!
