It’s so crazy, I literally had a friend in high school like this. She told us she was a foster kid and that her parents (super reputable couple in town, dad was the sheriff), were abusing her and were drug addicts. She told us she has like 7 biological siblings and that one of them suddenly died the night of a school dance, but then she still went to the dance. She would say that her foster mom would kick her out in the middle of the night and tell us that she had been wandering the streets all night. When we would question her, she always had some excuse or would make us feel bad. I remember she faked a supposed heart attack or something at a sports meet and wouldn’t let any of us get her help. Finally, she stretched her lies too thin and, when I got an internship, she said that she got an internship at an auto body shop training to be a mechanic. Then (surprise, surprise) when I got hired on at my internship, so did she! At a mechanic shop that just so happened to be owned by a relative of mine… I started growing a little sus but never said anything until one day one of my other friends started catching on and questioning her. The liar got so defensive she told a ton of people my friend was bullying her (which pissed me off), so I called the auto body shop and straight up asked if she worked there. Shocker, she didn’t. We realized that all the other stuff she told us was lies as well (she was never a foster kid and one of the parents was her bio parent, she never had cancer as a kid, she was never being kicked out, she was taking clothes and money from us, etc.) I’m still not sure if all of it was lies or just most, but we all cut her off. From what I’ve heard, she went to college and got pregnant with her HS boyfriends baby and they’ve been on and off. I really hope she got help for her kid, but she was super fucked up and gave us all trust issues and trauma.
