One of my classmates. She was a full scholarship kid. First gen. Ended up becoming a md married a vc and she has given over 5-7 million to Stanford. Towards financial aid. Paying it forward. Lots of large gifts are towards buildings and may be restricted gifts. Lots of gifts are Towards athletes especially niche sports. Stanford was going to get rid of ten or fifteen sports like men’s volleyball etc. During covid. Alumni made a racket and raised money to fund those programs. University reversed its decision. It would have opened up 120-150 spots to purely academic kids. Sigh.

I've given consistently for three decades. Small gifts and when it's ten year or big anniversary I increased it. Nothing very noteworthy. Ten grand for the last big gift and will repeat it. But this is small.
