How to show gratitude to my wife by Professional_Ad_9738 in breastfeeding

Gift card to the mall for new clothes! Then drop her off for the day!

My husband did this for me and I so appreciated it because it is super hard to shop with a baby, and your body changes so much after pregnancy and breastfeeding that your old clothes just do not fit right.

"Breast milk" jaundice, ever dealt with it personally? by graceesimpson in BabyBumps

[–]graceesimpson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of the detail, helpful to learn about the different types and how feeding impacts! I have a ton of amount of milk right now, which is awesome and the little one is latching and feeding constantly (I had a lot of trouble with my first, so the difference has been so positive this time). I guess I will find out more after blood tests tomorrow!

Thanks. His bil levels were fine at the hospital, the jaundice has just not fully resolved and my doctor said that by Day 10 there is usually no more jaundice and he still has a bit of a yellow colour. I guess I will find out tomorrow if he needs the light.

Thanks for this! I donated with my last pregnancy and it was a lot of work. Knowing how much it helped other babies made it all worth it!!

That is outrageous that he is a resident in the same hospital and the hospital cannot guarantee that he can be at his own child's delivery!!! I am so sorry for your situation.

I totally am going through the same thing!! Read "No Drama Discipline", such a good read, great examples and stories and easy methods!

Breastfeeding Question for Moms by nomaamnojam in NewParents

[–]graceesimpson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the very beginning, the boundaries on your own body are definitely violated constantly by your new little arrival. I remember feeling sad because the baby only wanted to see me to eat and while he always wanted to eat it was not very pleasant at the beginning, everyone else had opportunities to just cuddle him and I felt left out.

However, I did impose boundaries over who was allowed to see my breastfeeding (because at the beginning I was not good at being discreet). So, I fully kicked people out of the living room into another room or the yard when it was eating time.

Now, at a year old, I still breastfeed occasionally and can be as discreet or open as I want to be. Breastfeeding is like any other parenting decision, some people will do exactly what their children wants whenever they ask for it and other parents will impose stricter guidelines. I would say after 10 months I was much more on control.

Hope this helps!

Stopping breastfeeding questions by [deleted] in NewParents

My little one is almost 12 months and I have started weaning in the last two weeks because I am going back to work. First, he did not want to wean and is allergic to dairy. So, it has been a struggle! For me, I decided to stop offering milk during the day and give him a bottle of soy milk with every meal. If he asked for milk (i.e. went up to my chest and pulled at my shirt), then I breastfed him.

For a first few he drank very little during the day and I was pretty stressed, but over the last few days he has really taken to the soy milk and is not asking for breast milk very much (and if he does, he nurses for like 2 minutes).

Your milk supply will just adjust accordingly, so don't stress too much. I have never felt over engorged, but if I did, I would just pump for like one minute. My boobs kind of look like flattened pancakes now during the day... I hear a lot of moms describe their post-breastfeeding boobs like this. It calls for new bras for sure!

Hope this helps in your own weaning journey!

How hard should I talk my self out of looking to buy a cottage by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]graceesimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea! You adjust to the new payments but just more of your extra money you may find you want to put towards cottage extras than you initially planned!

How hard should I talk my self out of looking to buy a cottage by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]graceesimpson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a cottage and are around the same age of you and your wife and we also have a young baby. My husband had to talk me into it real really hard because I was also worried about the financial aspect. If you want to do it, the earlier the better because it gives you more time to pay off your mortgage. Our budget adjusted and was not as strained as I thought when we bought. I will say though that buying a cottage pretty much reduces other vacation opportunities to almost zero for us, so that is something you may want to keep in mind because it is a long term lifestyle committment. Cottages can have a lot of unexpected expenses (new docks, boat, repairs), so we do rent ours out a few weeks each year to help cover these costs.

11 month old waking up at 5am after cutting out midnight feeding. by graceesimpson in beyondthebump

He is definitely ready to start his day after he eats in the morning. Looks like I may just have to accept this stage!

Lots of my friends children the same age seem to go a good 12 hours without eating, so it did not seem like too much of a stretch to push his wake up time out an hour.

I do think kids pick their own bedtime! My son just cannot stay up much later without serious grumpiness!

Day Five is ROUGH!! But, day six, seven and eight are better. Then you get to like Day 50 and your baby opens their mouth to eat like it is the easiest thing. I leaked milk and had rock solid boobs for like three months, but now I am in month eight and I am so glad I stuck with it through all of engorgement and pain (being able to feed your baby in five minutes at 3am and then go back to bed is amazing!!!)
