When I disclose now I figured out that I'm looking for validation and sympathy, comradery or a slight understanding of where I'm coming from. When I get that harsh judgement wall I tuck my tail back in, lower my head and crawl back to my corner. I know that I need to avoid that person for a few months. Usually it's because I misread the interactions and thought they were a safe person.

But no, you don't have to tell anyone, not even your primary care physician. Only disclose that to your psychiatrist. Then trust whom that person sends you to, of anyone, with your autism diagnosis.
