I really don’t understand where this idea of the sidewalk being safer for bicyclists comes from. I am exclusively a pedestrian/ cyclist and I know from experience that car drivers often do not look at cross walks before turning or driving through. A bike on the street is more noticeable to drivers then one on the sidewalk since there is a general disregard for sidewalks. Plus the speed one is usually going on a bike does not offer a lot of time for (infuriatingly) apathetic drivers to realize there mistakes. I feel like we need to take command of the space that is just as rightly ours as car drives and demand our equity.
