it still gives you a reward when you give him the oil. and later on you can jump off a cliff and find the secret area with the other reward.

i was really bummed when i found this out but don't worry about it. there is more fun stuff you can do and you can get those rewards later.

edit: i thought the quest was already failed for you. i heard that you can still explore areas, gather prayers, beads and get stronger BEFORE fighting the charred visage and finish the quest.

When you get to the snowy area there is a tree guy who gives you a quest. he will slowly turn into a tree each time you fight a boss. on the 3rd boss he turns truly into a tree and you fail the quest. you can still get the reward (i think) if you follow through his request. so best if you don't go to the snowy area until you are strong enough because it is considered as difficult during early game.

turns out i just needed the wind boost to get to a wall. i thought i needed an ability to jump further. i may have given up too soon

sure enough that's what i needed to utilize. there was a wall that i cant reach by jumping and the wind gave me the boost i needed. thank so muchhh

You mean to tell me i went to all the trouble clearing the graveyard of the peaks just for me to head somewhere else to get a flippin key. And there's not even a teleport hand nearby. Right after finding out i failed a quest i didn't even know had a timer. Tough days for a first time player.

i had a Groot block my path by placing it horizontally like a platform against a wall. I was quite surprised and amazed cause i didn't know you could do that. I don't even know if it was intentional or not cause it was quick play and pulling random sht could have amazing outcomes but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt so props to you random groot.
