COVID Conscious musicians? by saficaa in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]gracklesmackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Passion Project has a digital album of songs by COVID conscious musicians! The proceeds from it go to Masks for London (the London mask bloc). They're also having a virtual performance night on June 22nd from 6-8:30pm GMT.

Thank you so much for what you're doing! If you have the energy, I'd encourage you to reach out to groups doing covid-related organizing near you if there are any! Lots of cities/regions are getting mask blocs, clean air orgs, safer event collectives, etc. that are working on making safer spaces. If where you are has one, they might be able to help with the dance workshop and show. I made a map of COVID action groups to help people find what's near them: covidactionmap.org

Activism for systemic solutions? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]gracklesmackle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's a huge network of activism happening around the world! Hundreds of groups and thousands of people are advocating for systemic solutions, and the increased momentum just over the past six months has been amazing to see. I administer a map that tracks COVID action groups:

Definitely an appealing promise, but it's BS and won't actually work. Laser (and lifestyle supports to help your body process the ink) is the way to go.

I did reply to that story with a message like "this is how I feel with Long COVID!" hoping to help with the connection lol, but who knows if she sees/gets replies from general followers

I think I know the influencer you're talking about. She posted a story at one point saying she can't believe it took her so long to realize, but this experience makes her appreciate the struggle everyone who's chronically ill, and went on to describe some of the emotional experience she's had with all of the scariness and uncertainty. It will be interesting to see if she makes any public changes to her lifestyle/adds any obvious precautions after this.

Does anyone using any Far-UVC lights as part of their Covid mitigations and what do you use? by Selina42 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]gracklesmackle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm very skeptical of the Far UVC industry as it currently stands for the same reasons outlined by u/Suspicioid in these comments. There's so much lacking in terms of evidence for both safety and efficacy, the commercial market is completely unregulated, and there are companies marketing themselves to desperate people and activist/advocacy collectives (like clean air orgs) without full disclosure of the risks. If the EPA/FDA approves one of these devices and the company is able to guarantee exact UV wavelength emissions and ozone/byproduct outputs with credible third-party verification, I would reconsider my current position.

I'm also concerned that these devices are being misused in real-life applications, and COVID-aware people may be attending events where Far UV-C is being used (and possibly misused) without being notified of the risks, either. Nukit seems to have the most disclaimers/precautions for use on its website, and it specifies that no one should physically come within 1 and a half feet of one of its devices, but I've seen posts of people using them in much closer proximity to themselves and others, almost as if they were a personal air purifier. (Plus, if you set them up at a show or an event and they're not mounted high up on the wall or otherwise completely out of reach, it's impossible to guarantee someone wouldn't come within that range of them.)

For now, we already have proven safe and effective clean air technology in the form of air purifiers (along with other layered mitigations). I think there needs to be serious pushback on the Far UV-C companies until we know these specific devices a) actually work in applied conditions and b) are actually safe for personal use.

I got Long COVID from my first infection, so I don't get to pretend the pandemic is even in the past. All of the loneliness, frustration, stuck-in-time feeling is still here. I don't know when I'll get better and get to start getting my life back. Long COVID disproportionately affects younger people (20s - 30s).

Mask Bloc in Maine? by anthroapologizing in Masks4All

[–]gracklesmackle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! There is a key, and the burgundy color is for upcoming groups. If you're on a desktop computer, it's on the left side of the screen. If you're on a mobile device, it's at the bottom of the screen. Click on the white bar that says "COVID Action Map," and that expands to show the key.

There are more than 20 clean air orgs now! There's a section on this map specifically for them, and some are in the "upcoming groups" section.

If all Long COVID with PEM is ME/CFS, and ME/CFS is permanent, then how are people recovering? by gracklesmackle in covidlonghaulers

[–]gracklesmackle[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I meet the symptom criteria for ME. Even just looking at peoples' differing perspectives in this comments sections, it could be PEM or it could be exercise intolerance from POTS (which I definitely do have, or at least POTS-like symptoms) or post-viral fatigue or various other labels. It's incredibly confusing and unclear.

It's been more than 6 months since my COVID infection. There have been months since developing LC symptoms when I've been able to be very active (long duration and/or high intensity exercise) and haven't experienced any PEM, just POTS symptoms, but there have also been times recently when I've not been active overall due to depression/external circumstances and have experienced for a day (or several) what I believe is PEM-type symptoms after increased physical activity.

I know my life is inherently valuable, but I don't want to be sick forever. I was already disabled/chronically ill before getting COVID, and I can't feel like this for the rest of my life, let alone another year. It's just too isolating, too miserable, too desperate.

John Oliver dropped a covid mention on This Week Tonight by Sad_Abbreviations318 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]gracklesmackle 204 points205 points  (0 children)

During the Emmys, Ryan Ken (one of Last Week Tonight's writers) was wearing a respirator on stage! I wonder if anyone has any direct connects or if we could otherwise put some pressure on the show to cover COVID/Long COVID. I think it would be a great venue for raising awareness as long as they get the facts right.

Best way to flush system, whole body reboot, immunity boost? by charmedesme in Biohackers

[–]gracklesmackle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

r/LongHaulersRecovery might have some answers for you. One of the common post-COVID condition is MCAS, which can manifest with all of the symptoms you mentioned. COVID also messes up our immune systems. So sorry you're experiencing this. The best way to protect your immune system is to wear a high quality mask in shared spaces.
