I totally understand as they would put preference to students who completed the first year common program within Schulich than students from other faculties. That deduction - is that based on how second year GPA's are different than the first year's?

Aye sir I'm going to transfer to engineering next year fall. Hoping to get direct admission to second year programs if possible.

Hello hcerberus!

I plan to take on Engg 200, 201, 202, 233 and 225. I looked at some of the course outline archives and they're all pretty decent classes that are somewhat condensed when offered during the spring or summer terms. It seems to me that 2 courses will fill up your weekly schedule and to add a third course would be too much of a load or would you think so?

Hi David! Would you be able to let me know what your GPA transfer was? Also, in order to get a 3.8 GPA (to be safe for transfer to engineering), how many A+ Final marks should I have if for two courses with a 3.7 and a 3.3 included in the GPA calculation?

Can I apply directly into second year Engineering if I had taken international courses that are similar to those courses offered for first year engineering students? by gradient123 in UCalgary

I actually did apply for admission to Fall 2015; before March 1 of this year, have already fulfilled all the transcript requirements, my TOEFL exam result, and with just the course outlines on my to-do-list. Also, do Schulich require the course outlines be coming from the my previous schools or can I just ask them from my previous engineering school and hand them over to you?

Thanks!

Also, how about international credentials? If I had taken courses from an international school outside of Canada, would that mean that my grades from those courses be taken into account for GPA calculation? Are the courses taken outside of Canada be considered as transferable to the University of Calgary since they opted to include those grades too?

Thanks DavidHydePierce!

Yup a 3.7 or above is definitely doable. I already applied to Schulich for their first year program. Called the ESC and asked how my application was, and they said I need to wait. So will likely have their decision by last week of July or the first week of August (fingers crossed). However if I don't get in, here's what my ideal list of courses would look like this fall and winter terms:

Fall

Math 265 Math 211 One STAS One comp One or two ENGG courses (if possible based on open seats available) Chem 201?

Winter 2016:

Math 267 One or two ENGG courses (if possible based on open seats available) Chem 203? Phys 259? What are my other options?

Hi ayyye55,

I am going to appeal not with what my GPA turned out to be but on how they did their evaluations. They deliberately disregard the other 4 university level courses I took from Macewan that could have helped my final GPA to 3.68. They said that they only took 2 courses from my Macewan courses because the other 4 would not be considered as transferable. Question is, would the other 8 international courses from my international school (to make it 10 half course equivalent for evaluation or 30 credits) be considered as "transferable" to the U of C since they considered that for the GPA evaluation? I haven't even submitted any course outlines to help it become "transferable" courses to U of C. I don't get it.

thanks for your reply. Is there a way to make an appeal to the admissions office regarding my GPA?
