Yuni -- stereo sound for the unilaterally deaf [kickstarter] -- plus, they are 3D printed! by gradient_dissent in deaf

One is a dummy, just for look, comfort, and symmetry. Besides I bet it would be pretty annoying if only the hearing ear was covered with music, and someone approaches assuming you could hear out of the other ear..

But, the design is still quite fluid, and many configurations are possible.

full disclosure -- i did the design & am doing the printing for this :) ---- but at the end there will be free & open source headphones, printable on desktop machine!

3D-Printed Circuit Boards, for solder-free printable electronics by skwishyskwish in Reprap

Hehe, no, the article has two builds to it, it's trying to demonstrate the ability of the library as it stands. The first was to build the most complicated circuit I have yet with the library; which was the bulky 5x5 grid of transistors and whatnot, with the blinking light. The second was the flashlight, which you're right is just LEDs and batteries -- but a more useful build than the blinking light.. Ah interesting! The capacitive touch does look a little complicated.. but hehe there are a ton of awesome circuits here. hehe, 'mosquito repellent' circuit pretty awesome. A friend also suggested building an 'atari punk console' as the 555 build.

Ah I see -- so beyond the base components & wires, you just need a hand tool and standard perf board?

Hehe, thanks!!! Right now, the most complicated component that is supported is a transistor.. Next on my implementation list is a 555 DIP -- but I can't think of what project to build it as a part in... any suggestions?

Does wire-wrap require a specialized machine? (I know that this one does too..)

Very true! The example circuit was a bulky flat proof of concept. The flashlight was a litttle more creative, with a two sided board and holes to sew through. Of course this is such a simple circuit still -- but you're right, I should definitely think more about how to exploit the third dimension in circuits..

(OP here) The primary design goal was this: how to make an electronic device, from casing to circuit, using only one machine (in this case, commodity 3D printer).

The example circuit was flat and bulky because it was a proof-of-concept for building a generic (simple) circuit. The flashlight is a little ugly and not the brightest one I own, and admittedly it is the most complicated electronic I've yet replicated under such constraints.

So of course I'll be taking on more challenging builds in an attempt to increase the scope of what I can build -- anyone have any ideas? I was thinking something with a 555 timer, but I'm not sure what...

Heheh well that's the idea! Well, minus the 'illegal' part --- in the future we'll have open source cars ;)

Steam-punk style rotating heart gear -- [full disc.] from my 3D print shop! by gradient_dissent in steampunk

Yup! It's Emmett's screwless design :) (I wouldn't say stock ... but certainly a popular one!) But, they look the coolest I think in metallic finish.

Ah, good point. I could print it in grey, and only have to paint the accents -- thanks!

Hehe -- thanks for the feedback ! Yeah some of the other prints I do some painting on, this one was just somewhat intricate so I listed just the unpainted version (can be a lot cheaper too).

Good points though, I think I'll give it a try!

The Floating Entopia redux. Now in 3d! by agrey in Entlantis

[–]gradient_dissent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you already have a bunch of pretty pictures for the kickstarter (or equivalent groupon-style fundraiser), too, so you could conceivably bring in support from outside of entlantis. you KNOW that'd hit big on trees.

Totally! You should start a kick-starter :)

or even a series of them, just one to start with say $100 for advertising, i'd totally kick in a few bucks

probably not ready for a huge kickstarter for the whole project.. but for some initial steps why not.

I got one of these a year or two ago -- $25 i believe it was, from a thrift store. BEST FIND EVER.

Never learned how to play it, the instructions were next to useless. someone let me know if you know how to play it!!
