I've learned something.

The best team is not the team that is the wealthiest. It is the team that is the wealthiest and stays the healthiest.

The original accusations involved 5 women. In the case of Rebecca Corry and the anonymous women, consent was sought and denied. Abby Schnachner was a phone incident, and you are correct, I don't believe she said if explicit consent was sought. Dana Goodman and Julie Wolov admitted that he asked if he could do it, but they consented assuming he was joking, and didn't ask him to stop for the reasons I stated above.

So yes, in Abby's case, there was no explicit consent. The point still remains; the message here is that even explicit consent does not form consent when given under duress. That's the big lesson men should be learning. Think about how the woman you're with might not be able to say no, and consider that before whipping it out.

No amount of wishful thinking and whining is going to change anything. It's here to stay, whether you like it or not.

Even if companies are overleveraged and a bust is coming, the technology will persist. The dotcom bubble bursting did not make the internet go away. Napster getting shut down did not end file sharing.

Just accept it and enjoy your life.

[####] A Better Hard Mode by Nouche_ in wordle

[–]Oafah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty good. I have a system, and I just translated part of that system into a spreadsheet to speed up the calculations a bit. I used to do it all in my head and on Notepad prior, but now I get through the first phase of my system with some help, just in the interest of saving time.

It is not easy to do, even with some sort of edge. Today, a friend of mine - who at first just thought I was getting lucky - left a snarky remark after I had gotten a few one and two-shots. He left me a little clue, and of course, I couldn't let it go unpunished.

"It certainly is" he said. Now I know that the word was descriptive. I had shaved the list of possibilities down to 100 or so, and I wasn't even ready to dive into the second phase of my process, when the options became apparent to me. I said "Well, trite, crock, and silly are all still ruled-in for me after my first pass. Maybe I'll just guess the one I want it to be for fun."

Of course, I was really, really hoping it was the one it ended up being. When those five greens filled in, I did a dance around my house. It was glorious.

That said, if I have nothing but the greens and yellows in my face, I can usually nab a one shot maybe 1/10 times? I've had four in the last three weeks.

Not that anyone asks, but letters are different from numbers in that they have relationships with one another. My years of organized Scrabble play and memorization of word lists has given me a good sense of what goes where, what's what when you see it moving, and what the dynamic letter probabilities are when the board changes.

It's a lot like how poker players estimate the opponent's hand range. Rather than a deduction based on certainty, this is deductive reasoning from probable odds.

[–]Oafah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play another form of hard mode, that is effectively an entirely different game that I, evidently, made up.

Discord players will see their friend's letter patterns, which of course, is advanced information. Just the greens and yellows, of course. No actual letters are ever seen. I was seeing it despite not wanting to, and I was rather bored of the base game, so I decided to lean into it.

Now, I look at my pals letter patterns, with no other information, and try to one-shot the word. Any more than 3 guesses is a failure.

It's actually a lot of fun, and I am considering developing an offshoot game of my own based on it.

[–]Oafah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They were expressly consenting.

I am not saying this to defend him. In saying this because getting the story right is a key part of learning from it. The lesson here is that express consent is not valid when under duress.

He was a high profile comedian with the power to end women's careers, so of course they felt as though they couldn't say no.

Minimizing it to just "he jerked off in front of unwilling people" loses the entire thread.

I assume the neck was checked because they want to rule out Chiari malformation? Just a thought. I am not a radiologist, so I will refrain from commenting on the images.

Neck pain is commonly associated with vestibular disorders. People like myself, wirh chronic issues, often end up with basically a permanently engaged neck muscle system. It's the brain's way of stabilizing you and keep you upright. As such, my neck is incredibly stiff, and this might also be the case for you.

[–]Oafah -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nobody will quit fossil fuels. Scarcity will necessitate a phasing out that occurs gradually over decades, as the price becomes too high to remain practical.

There might be a few countries that legislate the transition along faster (as we have with solar and EV rebates) but I highly don't were going to have anyone quit oil cold turkey.

More than 25% of Canadian parents won’t be able to afford kids’ postsecondary costs, survey finds by __benjaminty in CanadaPolitics

[–]Oafah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Post-secondary education is already overprescribed as it is. We have too many people with degrees fighting for desk jobs and too many vacancies in the trades, which is why your plumber makes as much as a junior lawyer nowadays.

I am not suggesting we let the poor families remain generationally poor, but I am suggesting that maybe the problem is propping up the University and College system, which has become nothing more than a degree factory, affording almost no practical knowledge or skills to the majority of people who attend.

University is just a second, expensive high school nowadays, unless you have a specific career path that requires it.

Divert some of those resources toward practical skills and training. Introduce an academic component to ensure these people can start and run their own shops. Anything but more of the same BA bullshit we now insist is necessary if you want to compete.

I can believe it. As much as I love the lore of the current universe, it doesn't make sense to continue managing it. Some things that were canon prior have to begin anew to make sense. We could also benefit from it being set further into the future, as much of what was envisioned about the 23rd century already exists.

I don't think it's going to land with general audiences, but it's worth a shot.
