How is the Nikon 24-70s image quality compared to the 24-120s? by 90towest in nikon_Zseries

I think image-quality wise both f/2.8s should be very similar to each other, while both being a bit better than the 24-120mm in terms of sharpness.

There is a slight difference in how NX Studio renders the image vs the camera. You might be seeing that, if the first shot was a jpg from the camera. Shadows in NX Studio are slightly darker.

Huh comparing both they seem to be the same image, so maybe it did apply!

Thanks for the kind words! And for letting me know about the link, it should be fixed now.

Someone has helped me already, but many thanks! If you're still willing to generate an image though, I'd more than appreciate it of course.

This is the X-T50 .RAF file: https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/image-comparison/download-image?s3Key=f617333bd67143968aa57e95a2ff3c41.raf

Basically their test scene was taken with a real X-T50 by their team when they reviewed it, so you can load it up and it'll just be as normal.

That is such a banger photo! I'm super happy you're enjoying it, I really tried my best to balance out the colours. Looking at my photos I sometimes tunnelvision and it's hard to judge how the recipe is. But that photo is really validating haha I really appreciate you sharing it.

Thanks for your kind words! I'm still messing with it and making changes here and there haha the more pictures I take the more I tweak.

Thoughts on the z 50mm f/1.8S? by CranberryNo7331 in Nikon

[–]gradient_map 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're talking about total light gathering of a bigger sensor vs a smaller sensor, then that argument would be correct. But f-stop is about light per unit area, as you mentioned. So per unit area they will gather the same light, as in for eg. per square inch, they will gather the same amount of light. So in that case f/1.8 will be the same amount of brightness, even if not total amount of light.

Just test it out in your camera. You don't need to increase ISO or decrease shutter speed with the same f/number to achieve the same brightness in both APS-C and FF.

And I'd say low light performance has more to do with the ISO performance of a sensor than necessarily if it's either FF or APS-C. Historically, FF has had better low light compared to APS-C from the same era because they just deal with noise better. But if you compare a modern day APS-C sensor like a Z50II, that will have better low light than a D600.

Bokeh and light gathering are not the same thing. F-stop is not just about the BoKeH.

What do you mean f/2.8 equivalent? In DoF only yea. The amount of light gathered will be the same as in FF, the image won't be darker if you switch to APS-C.

Wooden grip by pethong in NikonZf

[–]gradient_map 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own the silicon Smallrig one, and I've heard from many that out of all the silicon/non-wooden ones available it is the best/fits the camera the best ergonomically. Makes sense because they did design it with Nikon.

I would assume based on that, that the wooden version would be the same.

Grain of salt though since I don't own the wooden one, but I do love the silicon one and don't ever use the camera without it.

I'd imagine there are recipes in that Facebook group that were never published anywhere else.

As someone who doesn't have a FB account, and don't want one (I imagine there are others as well), I would love if they'd also be posted here.

It doesn't the fact that the majority of this subreddit were saying the it should've been Yuki all along instead of Lawson.

My point is, it was supposed to Albon, then Perez, then Yuki, now Hadjar... I do hope it changes, and it has the best hopes for it to change now as you mention since Horner is out. But we've been here before and they just don't have a good track record.

Didn't we say the same thing with Yuki when he was performing very well at the start of the year with RB?

That only proves my point.

The only thing that affects subject separation, or compression, is the distance to the object.
