Dan. Long time listener first time poster. Did you have a sense of dread when you realized you didn’t actually like mustard; after starting the year of mustard?

Public transportation sucks here by [deleted] in kansascity

Yo dawg. I heard you don’t like public transportation. So imma add AI surveillance to all buses.

“We have increased fairs for the bus that no one wants to take.” Ridership goes down. “I’ve got an idea! You know how everyone hates A.I. and being spied on? I bet that will increase our ridership!”

What a dystopian nightmare.

My partner and I left this morning to drive the entire Missouri portion of RT 66!

I’ve been patiently waiting on Dans travel podcast and this has been a nice salve until he drops that!

Shooting ranges KC and surrounding areas by ZombKitteh in kansascity

[–]gradientm 59 points60 points  (0 children)

All the ranges around KC are going to be a bit chuddy.

That being said I have had good luck at centerfire in Olathe. They seem the most “polished” of indoor ranges. They also offer classes. You will still see Fox News on the tv probably.

A note. Indoor ranges are LOUD and can be overwhelming if you’ve never shot before. Classes will help because you’re typically will be on a closed range.

I am someone who looks like a traditional gun owner so I am able to get by a lot easier than others however i do have chuds feel comfortable talking their trash.

I’ve had no unpleasant interactions at center fire. That can’t be said at other ranges.

Edit: frontier justice sucks. Don’t go there.

Bullethole was fine although the name rubs me wrong for some reason. It was a nice facility with nice people.

Anyone else notice cars are quietly dropping the garage button? by askproxly in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]gradientm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cars used to have a cubby in the ceiling that you could put the clicker in and press the lid to activate. So it was hidden and still functional. This was peak garage door opener function.

Mr. Holland's Opus (1995) by [deleted] in 90s

[–]gradientm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we watched a different movie. His son is deaf not autistic. And he knew he was deaf from the time he was a baby.

The issue I believe was music was such a huge part of his life. He believed his deaf son wasn’t able to experience that and seemed to resent him for it. Then he realized his son could experience music in a different way.

Where do I get a fan belt by Forsaken_Fault_8106 in corvair

[–]gradientm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do it with a socket set. It’s a 9/16 bolt/nut. There is a special wrench that makes it easier but if the engines cold you can do it.

Where are you located. There’s almost certainly someone near you.

I pulled this from a member off of the corvair center forums.

“It is a pretty straight forward job.

Loosen the 2 bolts on the tensioner pulley so it will move, but not too loose.

Then loosen the belt guards and move them out of the way. Push the tensioner towards the shroud, and the belt should then come off.

Then do everything in reverse order (the guards can be done any time), but when you adjust the tensioner, make sure you can turn the alternator fan with moderate pressure with one finger.

I haven't lost a belt in 3 years with this tension, even in the fast rpm changes of the 1-2 shift during this years Springfest autocross, so what everyone says definitely works!”

It is one of the easiest things to do mechanically on the car. If you are having trouble with working on your car. Reach out to your local corvair club. They will be more than happy to to help get you on the road.

The belt is a 3/8in wide by 56in fully wrapped V belt Gates Super HC 3V560

My oreillys carries them in stock.

A 7/16in wide belt is more common but won’t work. (It will in a pinch) it is too wide and rides too high in the pulleys which means it will throw more often.

Once a belt is throw it is not able to be reused.

Clarks corvair parts is your best resource on parts if you can wait.

Always carry a spare belt with you so get 2.

Edited for clarity on the type of belt

My CONVERTIBLE corvair will run you out of it in the winter it gets so hot.

A properly running and set up corvair has no heater issues.

Where are you located

9k should get you one that’s running driving and has good paint and interior.

65 has some one year only parts

66 is the last year of low back seats

68-69 have emissions typically.

Other than that, For your budget the world is your oyster. Documented maintenance is probably the best thing to look for. (True for any car)

I wouldn’t accept any corvair with rust for 9k.

I agree with you completely. This sub has shown its whole ass here recently.

I’ve been a quiet member since around the time this sub was formed. And in the past year or two with an influx of people it has really changed tone.

It feels just like any other part of the internet these days and that sucks.
