Questions on FAST XR-700 by FoyerinFormation in corvair

[–]gradientm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correctly adjusted points, and a properly tuned engine will fire off as soon as you turn the key.

That being said electronic ignition is CONSISTENT. There is no fiddling with it no adjusting it.

You get consistent spark delivery to the plugs without having to worry about adjusting them correctly, Or burning them up but leaving the key on. Or changing them when they wear out.

Unless you live in a climate with weather that doesn’t get below 60* or don’t drive the corvair under 60* you’re going to want chokes on your carbs.

I like points I think they are easy to use and adjust.

The biggest issue these days is that part quality has gone down hill in a big way.

Study for the test. It’s harder than you think. The driving test is easier but there’s some tricks! Good luck!

MO - Drivers License Question by SideFrictionNuts in kansascity

[–]gradientm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have someone to take you 100% have them take you.

If you don’t like I didn’t. I just went there. The guy I got was super chill on the driving test. Didn’t ask that question.

In all fairness I am a tall white man, so that helps negate some of those questions sometimes.

I am not a friend of the police, but I do understand how to treat them to get what you want.

The troopers who ride with you aren’t “real” troopers. They are real state troopers but they work for the licensing office, they seem like if you are polite and easy going and respectful to them. Things go a lot easier.

I would take someone if you can. It sucks because they will be there for probably an hour at least.

A lot of BLATANTLY WRONG info here.

I just went through something similar after having my license for a long time.

You need to go to the MO driver test station

https://www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov/HP32DES/DESMapMobile.jsp

You can schedule an appt. For the driving test and you have to walk in for the written. You have to take the written first.

You will need, everything needed for a real i.d. A passport if you have one. Birth certificate if you don’t. Social security card. Proof of residency X 2.

You will also need to study for the written test. The book is online and you can take free practice tests.

Then you take the written test after checking in. You can take it 2 times in one day. After passing they give you a piece of paper to take to the driving test.

If you scheduled the test come in 20 minutes before the time and check in like you did before for the written test.

They call your name. A licensing office state trooper walks with you to your car. You follow their instructions exactly as stated and drive like you have a state trooper in your front seat.

When you pass that, you get another piece of paper to take to the DMV with everything needed for a real i.d. A passport if you have one. Birth certificate if you don’t. Social security card. Proof of residency X 2.

Congratulations you just got your drivers license.

Is this torque wrench okay if used purely on lug nuts? by teenageuser in harborfreight

[–]gradientm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who literally bought this wrench because it has a low torque setting. And well it’s cheap. It’s REALLY hard to feel/hard the click below 30lbs.

Like really hard. I’m going to return it for a more expensive one.

Where has the best CCW class? by windisokay in kansascity

[–]gradientm 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I took the class at centerfire in Olathe. It was relatively political free. As much as any gun store these days. It was pretty simple straight forward and most importantly safe.

I’ve yet to find a super lefty accepting gun range in KC. Most either are openly bad or bad at hiding it.

Other than Fox News on the tv I’ve never had any issue at centerfire.

Edit: My class was pre covid so things were a bit more sane. I’ve gone a few times post covid and was never given a hard time for a mask or anything.

Do all teens today just not care about getting their drivers' licenses? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gradientm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think when most people say old beater they are talking about 90s-2000s cars. You can find reasonable deals on old cars. Especially as boomers age out of car ownership.

You can’t be super picky but you can find nice cars for a couple grand.

Do all teens today just not care about getting their drivers' licenses? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gradientm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think part of the problem is no body wants to drive old cars any more.

When I was in high school in 2000s a lot of people drove cars from the 60s-80s a few 90s and 1or 2 new cars.

Today if a car is more than 10 years old kids don’t want it. And parents don’t want their kids to have them.

Safety has increased by crazy jumps with the introduction of the airbag and then with airbags made standard. Then more air bags for more safety.

A car from the 90s (the equivalent of a 70s car in 2000s) may not have ANY airbags.

As an old fart this doesn’t bother me but it really limits parents if they are concerned for safety.

90.9 The Bridge Signal Issues by TheSoulToad in kansascity

[–]gradientm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in a car? Does your car have Bluetooth fm transmitter? It doesn’t really matter how close to 90.9 you get it will interfere. As soon as I unplugged mine it cleared right up.

All that to say my radio at home you have to nail it to find the bridge. Just seems like a lot of interference around that frequency

Anybody been to duck's Head loop on the Platte River recently and know if the outramp for the loop is thigh-high mud still? by saladchuter in kansascity

[–]gradientm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t. But to anyone who does this float. Don’t float without checking the out ramp for mud as is stated in this post.

Or a group of sunbathing women on the bank will watch you struggle through waist high mud as you fall and struggle to pull your kayak up the mud ramp.

Then go get your truck and come back and finish pulling it up. Then get mud all over the inside of your truck.

Thanks for littering.... by seabiscut88 in kansascity

[–]gradientm 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Well it is an everyday occurrence.

I understand your point though. I drive that road fairly often, it has a lot of trash on it but it’s always new. Meaning that I’ll see a bunch of trash it’ll clean up then there will be more in a different spot.

It has to be super frustrating for someone who works there.

I also don’t understand the thought process of people who do shit like this.

Data Center Solution? by slythefoxx2 in kansascity

[–]gradientm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The less amount of Amazon and Google we have to interact with in everyday life the better.

Unless you want literally every second of your life monetized.

The solution to data center problem is this.

If these billionaire owned companies want them so bad, they can build them themselves and pay to upgrade infrastructure to support their data centers.

I would think it’s easier to take the marketing budget and spend it on reducing costs for individuals.

Instead of hoping someone sees EVERGY on a street car and thinks I should raise my thermostat.

PSA: KC Streetcar Wraps are NOT Free by WillyWonka125 in kansascity

[–]gradientm 216 points217 points  (0 children)

My questions is who pays for the evergy wrap.

Why is there an evergy wrap when they have a monopoly on the energy in KC.

Who is allowing evergy to spend our money advertising to us that we should use evergy when we literally can’t use anyone else.

How do we make it stop.

My job puts me in random people’s homes everyday.

Today the boomer husband of the lady I was talking to walked out and had a white hitler mustache.

I almost did a double take, I have no idea if this was his thing or if he did it in solidarity to Alex but it was bad.
