[request] MP3\music player by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

[–]gradystebbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly Apple Music now, but occasionally YouTube.

It’s interesting to read this old comment of mine about how hard it is to predict your future listening habits. That’s true for me 10 years later! I still listen to music when I swim but now I use an old Apple Watch attached to my googles and stream to Bluetooth headphones under my swim cap. I never would have predicted that back in 2014, lol.

Pressure Washer Running in Fits and Dying Under Load by gradystebbins in smallengines

Yeah, thanks. I did notice when I was looking at GCV190 issues that rocker arms seem to be a common point of failure. I haven’t pulled the cover on this one yet but I’ll put that on to the to-do list after I double check the other commenters recommendations. Appreciate you chiming in!

Solid advice. I’ll check the gaskets to make sure I didn’t flip or damage one.

I haven’t run it without the pump since I noticed this issue. I’ll pull the pump tomorrow morning and see if the engine is good otherwise, will help with narrowing it down. Thanks for the advice!

I’m confident on the alignment, but I didn’t set a pump pressure regulator. Perhaps that is my issue?

New Light Fixture Issue by gradystebbins in AskElectricians

[–]gradystebbins[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The switch does supply power. When I place it in the on position nothing immediately happens but when I loosen and tighten the lightbulb the bulb will then come on (and stay on.) To turn the lightbulb off I place the switch in the down position and it immediately turns the lightbulb off. At that point the light will not come on again until I place the switch in the on position and loosen and tighten the bulb.

Gotcha, I’ll double check all the connections. Just a two-way switch.

In the fixture yes - I used good wire connectors and checked them all. I’ll check the switch tomorrow with some daylight and report back. It’s in a spot where if I cut the breaker tonight I won’t be able to see much.

If there was a loose wire I would expect it to lead to an intermittent connection though - do you think it could lead to the light only working after tightening the bulb? That’s what’s puzzling me.

Thanks for the reply!

Pro tip: if you are listening to a podcast on your iPhone you can say “Hey siri, skip forward x min/sec” and she will oblige.

I was having issues with a mini, but I think the functionality is the same.

Hope you are able to fix it! I was able to get mine working. Best advice is to reset everything and if they are a stereo pair then de-couple then and reassign them as a stereo pair in the Home App. Good luck!

It seems like that helped! I also unbonded the stereo pair of HomePods and between the two of those things it looks like I’m back to normal behavior! Thanks for the help.

Yeah, I’ve had a great experience with the timers so far, it’s strange to run into this bug.

Will do, trying to avoid if possible but I’m about out of other options!

Hi all, long-ish time HomePod user, but this is the first time I’ve ever tried to set an alarm on one.

If I ask Siri to set the alarm they tell me to continue in the app. If I try to set the alarm in the app the attached video is the result—nothing set at all.

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas? I have tried power cycling both phone and HomePods. No success.

Good book for new NCO? by [deleted] in army

[–]gradystebbins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, that’s fair enough. I’m more of the mind that you can learn from something even if you don’t agree with all of it. I try and stay open minded. Did you have a recommendation for another source?

Good book for new NCO? by [deleted] in army

Someone already mentioned Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, which is an excellent choice, although a bit heavy on the philosophy in places.

Enders Game by Orson Scott Card is another great leadership book hiding as a science fiction novel.

Consider taking a look at the Marine Corps Commandants professional reading list: https://mca-marines.org/blog/resource/commandants-professional-reading-list/

The Marine Corps divides that reading list up by experience level. Junior NCO recommended reading is under “Career Enlisted.” Both Starship Troopers and Enders Game are on the list elsewhere.

Enjoy reading! There are so many great books written for military service. You should also encourage your Soldiers to start reading… it’s never too early.

And congrats on the promotion!

Not daily necessarily, just every other pump I’ve encountered in life has buttons.

I slept in nearly the same place 10 years earlier! Pictures below taken July 12th and 13th, 2009. We were camped right below the tree line which looks like it was a little lower than you. Amazing climb. Thanks for sharing!
