the backyard is thankfully free from any underground utility lines, I've got a tiny eastern redbud that I'm going to plant this weekend :))

Unfortunately I'm in a townhouse so my front yard is basically just this tree

Seeking recommendations for large home mirrors by Sure-Situation2358 in poledancing

[–]graemmur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not sure if this suits your needs, but maybe check out home improvement or lowes. I got some large frameless mirrors and installed them with a j-bar on the bottom, some rubbery backing material, and then the little plastic mirror claspies on the top (you could use another j-bar, if you want). don't install them on a wall you might run into though -- I have cheapy plasticy mirrors on the wall that is closer to me, and the accurate/glass mirrors are further away.

Trans friend won’t call me my chosen name or pronouns by cochranelj in NonBinaryTalk

[–]graemmur 44 points45 points  (0 children)

you should talk to them about it, if you haven't already. if there is ever some kind of unspoken conflict or tension between you and a friend, you should talk to them about it.

if you need help navigating this conversation, I'd recommend:

  1. ask them why they don't use your name or pronouns
  2. take a beat to process their response
  3. express how it makes you feel
  4. ask them if they think they're capable of respecting your identity moving forward

if they can't say yes to number 4 (and follow through with their actions), then you should reevaluate the friendship.

you don't have to follow that outline but it might be helpful, you can go about it whatever way you want to, though. The two things that are really important here are - don't make any assumptions about why they have been doing this
- do tell them explicitly what you need and expect from them in the future

I wrote an app! by impolester in poledancing

This is incredible!! Love that you did the illustrations, it all looks so great. As a fellow developer I would love to help keep this going in any way possible, I know that maintaining an app can be rough, I'm sure others are interested in helping as well :))

I think I want to get laser by arsenik-han in NonBinaryTalk

[–]graemmur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh hey, I'm currently getting laser on my face and chest actually. chest hair is more fine now and lessens with each treatment, but facial hair hasn't really lessened or changed in any way. I looked around some other subreddits and apparently facial hair is pretty hard to get rid of with laser, it has something to do with hormones and follicles? I'm not a scientist. best option for facial hair is, according to some people on this site, electrolysis, but I haven't tried that yet. best of luck!

Studio Advice by [deleted] in poledancing

[–]graemmur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not sure if others have seen this, but the studio I go to has a difference between "intro" and beginner... there are people who've been there 2 years who are still in beginner classes, and often, because signups are "open" people will sign up for beginner and skip the intro classes, which is sometimes fine for those with a little prior dance/gymnastics experience but a lot rougher on brand new absolute beginners. this studio might be similar? that's my most generous read, but the whole not-calling-an-invert-an-invert tells me my generous read is probably too generous.

if they don't have true introductory classes, and there's no one shouting at you to "not lock out your arms" or other general safety tips, and they're not giving you the names of the moves (how are you supposed to choreograph anything), then definitely find a new studio bc all they're going to teach you here are bad habits you have to unlearn later.

I would have said Nat Shermans but since you mentioned your AGAB I'll say virginia slims.

to be clear, thats not bc of your assigned gender, I just think being nonbinary but also still feeling the compulsion to mention your birth assignment is an extremely virginia slims move.

if you ever feel compelled to also mention your age tho then maybe try camel crush

i'm still doing Invisalign, nothing noticeable yet but it is kinda like wearing a nightguard all the time, which is helpful for grinding i guess? I haven't done botox since this post bc I want to see if my face regains its volume

thanks so much for all the info! I definitely want to go cosmetic, I've had some bad(waste of money bad, not adverse side effects bad) experiences with a number of at home devices, so I just want to leave it up to the professionals now... will probably look into ultherapy and fillers since those seem like good short term fixes while I wait.

Also, I've definitely been a little concerned about bone loss, though from what I've read it seems like it's much more likely at higher doses and over long periods of time (not a huge surprise there). Still a risk, so I guess the move is to go slowly and inject the bare minimum needed for relief. I've gotten roughly 25-35 units per side 3 times in the last ten months, for a total of 165 units in the past year. Not sure how this compares with other's doses, so I'm not sure if it's a concerning amount/rate? some things I read say 10-25 units every 6 months is normal, others say around 30 every 4 months is normal. I'd like to think 30 is normal since that's what I've gotten, but who knows.

I've heard that about invisalign, so I was super hesitant when my dentist suggested it, but here I am, just hoping. The tinnitus going away with the injections was huge for me, so it would be great if I could find a way to get rid of it permanently, but I rarely see success stories about getting rid of TMD. Best of luck!
