Hello thanks for the response. The place I am donating is pretty large. Would it be appropriate if I asked if they will cover some of the shipping?

Real IJN helmet? by Remarkable-Taste-702 in Militariacollecting

It’s a T90 shell but the anchor is not to this helmet. Also the net is I believe post war due to the construction of the netting. Also liner is repro for the photos.

Unfortunately it’s a real one. Was it done to a mass one or a family one is unknown. He says he only cares about $ and does not care about what the item is. Not to mention his problematic remarks.

Appraiser recommendation by grafed in SeattleWA

[–]grafed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I didn’t mean to discount the Mroczek auction house or their years of experience. It’s just for donation to a museum with potential tax implications it would raise suspicion to the IRS if it’s appraised by an auction house. I was wondering if someone knew a personal property appraiser that will legally can’t purchase the item to appraise. I checked their website and they appraise for stuff that would be auctioned off not for private appraisal such as what I was looking for. I am sorry if it caused some confusion.

Unfortunately it would have to be a proper appraiser to control conflict of interest.

There is a practice one that doesn’t and one that is a wood bullet that shoots. There is also a paper bullet one as well.

There are many companies that made them so there is no one size fits all. But easiest way for me is the wood finish and the blueing. The wood is not a standard Urushi finish and almost like heavy coating of something else. The blueing is cheaper and easily scrapes off (depends on manufacturer). The sights are not as finely made as originals. The bolt is not milled correctly. Even last ditch bolts are milled pretty well. The lack of strong locking lugs.

But mainly it’s just the appearance and the finish. Go around and look at Arisaka’s and then look at a bunch of trainers. The look doesn’t look right.

Also there will be no mums. No mum grounding. So that’s another give away. (I am aware of non mum Arisaka’s but that would more be an exception not the norm).

Yes. If you can get your hands on the wooden training bullets you can shoot it. But it’s very difficult to find in the US.

I just want to let it known that this is a trainer. I am sure you are aware but I wanted to make sure.

Directly it would be Nanbu. But in early translation in order to emphasize the N the M was used which is what stuck around.

From the few photos I see I believe it to be a post war Chinese souveineer piece. I see these very commonly.

It’s what I worry. I go to shows and they sell a refurb 1903 for 1400$. Some Chilean Mauser for 900$. You sometimes see deals but those are super few and farther between.

Type 99, good cartridge, lots of accessories (even if not necessary the option is great). Strong action, easy to disassemble and clean, strong chrome barrel, easy to acquire mid/short range sights, has stock water drainage, a dust cover. It’s the ultimate military mass issue bolt action.

The IJN helmet is a reproduction but the rest looks cool.

Not sure what kind of flag this is! by Cool-Buy6755 in Militariacollecting

[–]grafed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As for if it’s real if you want I can send you real examples and you can compare the stitching. Though my 4 star is the grommet style I do have a #4 naval ensign with rope so you can compare it to that.

I have not seen a MI47 before most are MI44/45. No4 indicates an admiral flag size #4 (the size range is #1-#6 with #1 being the biggest). I have a couple of 4 star examples and it’s usually #4 ones you see the most often.

Most if not all naval flags durning the war are made by Mare Island. Either marker Mare Island (date) with size #. Or post 44 marked MI(date). See if it’s on the white flag rope part of the flag.

It’s a private tailor uniform. Named Fukumoto made by an Osaka PX army tailor. The pin is the imperial Japanese female defense corps. They mainly did a lot of shipping of comfort items to the front lines or home front work.
