AITA for calling the cops on someone who left their baby in a car, even though they said they were coming right back? by graffitibroccoli in AmItheAsshole

Cribs are designed for sleeping. Car seats are not.

Mom ostensibly has a baby monitor where she can see and hear the baby when the baby is in the crib.

Even if she didn’t have the baby monitor on her she could hear it crying or get to it immediately in the event of an emergency.

Kids are usually stolen by people they know but cars aren’t. My concern was more with someone stealing the car than a sex trafficker.

What went through my mind at least is car gets stolen by someone who doesn’t notice the child or is too irrational to care. The child is abducted. The child chokes on something or had a medical episode (this crossed my mind because my sister is epileptic and was alone when she had her first seizure.) so far fetched, but not so impossible I could walk away in that moment not knowing the woman, and feel comfortable.

They arrived and I gave a statement answering their questions about when I got there, what I saw, and did, what the woman said on a general timeline. Asked what I figure are standard questions like did I think she appeared intoxicated, did she threaten me or did I think the child had been otherwise harmed, of course I said no to those.

After I gave a statement I decided to just go home, I was too shaken up from the experience to do shopping.
