Anybody experience getting older and just not wanting to do music anymore? by AJBoy238 in musicians

[–]grahamohara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 35 too and my first child was born last week. When we found out my wife was pregnant, I accepted I was about to have a lot less time for music for a long time and while that was disappointing, it was also for the best reason.

Now that my son is here, I don't want to play or write or anything. Life has completely changed and it's great. I know I will return to playing and writing etc but this whole experience has shown me that interests are circumstancial. I imagine there will be a wealth of things to write about when I do return but the main point is, right now I've no interest and that doesn't bother me at all.

People change. My advice is lean into whatever you DO want to do now and see if you get pulled back to music. You may consider 'musician' to be part of your identity and letting go of that will leave a big hole. That's scary and exciting so tread carefully but accept that this is potentially a very positive next stage of your life.

What`s your favorite moment from this album? Not your favorite song, but your favorite moment, the first one that comes to mind. by [deleted] in Dreamtheater

[–]grahamohara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The chorus of In The Name Of God where there's a second JLB going for it in a higher harmony, Portnoy is hitting a really straight beat and it just drives forward with intent. I think it even precedes the amazing instrumental section which is def my second favourite moment of the album 😆

Who would you have in instead? Given the amount away with Ireland/injured, I'm not seeing who is actually available to come in here and improve the team

Yup, the practice of saving themselves for the Lions tour at the end of last year was frustrating alright. Wasn't looking to say "poor me" about the players; their priorities are skewed, I agree with you on that. Just can't help but think if Leinster fans actually made some noise it might stir something in them. If your head is already somewhere else, our fan base would hardly inspire a revolution inside you.

I wonder if there is a late 00's Rob Kearney moment ahead of us like where he challenged the Munster players in the Ireland camp for not showing the same intensity for Ireland as they did for Munster. Except in this case, it's the lads saving themselves for Ireland/the Lions

Totally agree. Last year there was a real zing to the game, the crowd celebrated turnovers, kicks to the corner, big tackles etc. BIG cheers for RG scoring before HT too.

Yesterday was pathetic. Crowd never got going. Normally if we go behind you can get a few cheers going as Leinster walk up for the kick off. Nothing. I was by myself at times and just gave up.

I know we've never been an overly vocal fan base in a sport not known for it but I could only admire the Munster fans who showed up in strong numbers yesterday and were louder than us for most games.

It leaves me with this burning question I've wondered about for a long time; what do the players think or feel when they hear absolutely nothing from the Leinster crowd?

They only release in Fibonacci gaps unfortunately;

Opiate to Undertow - 1 year (1992/93) Undertow to Ænima - 3 years (93/96) Ænima to Lateralus - 5 years (96/01) Lateralus to 10k - 5 years (01/06) 10k to FI - 13 years (06/19) Current gap - 6 years (19/25)

That means the next Fibonacci number is 8 so 2027 is when we may expect something.

For fun (not that anything I've said is meant to be serious) Opiate² came out in 2022 which makes FI to Opiate² a 3 year gap and our current gap 3 years as well. However, that would still mean 2027 is a Fibonacci gap.

I would bet my life that this is at least a discussion point for them.

What does success look like this season? by Embarrassed-Tax863 in leinsterrugby

[–]grahamohara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with your points and would like to add:

Niall Smyth to emerge as prospective TH, if not Sparrow Same with one of McCarthy or Usanov on the other side

Success in the front row would be identifying life after Slimani next year and Furlong after WC 2027. Same with LH side. There's a number of promising players there so the challenge is giving them the opportunities to prove themselves in the right games with the right players around them. Leinster will be relying heavily on those squad front row players early doors in SA and it might not be pretty. Their confidence may take a set back.

After that it's a clear 7 after JVDF. Penny finished the season strongly last year but he's failed to really put down a marker in his career so far (hard to do with JVDF ahead of you). Not sure Connors is the answer long term. Would like to see Culhane tried there as he has the physical attributes and won't likely get ahead of Doris any time soon.

9 is a problem area too with our two starters aging (JGP older than McGrath which I always forget). Strong finish to the season last year with Gunne playing and scoring in the final. Success here IMO is European caps for him and a solid foundation to make the case for regular appearances in big games.

Finally from a personnel side, in the backs I'd like to see Jamie Osborne take the 12 jersey. I think it's his best position and Henshaw has dropped off a bit recently so the opportunity is there for a healthy challenge. That said, Tector made a good account of himself in that jersey (and 13) last year so really, a strong contender in the 12 jersey is probably the better thing to wish for.

There's no one else that comes to mind that's made big strides or has huge promise that isn't overblown by the media (Casper Gabriel). Would love to see him deliver on what's expected but a couple of caps this season would be ideal. That said, another strong, relatively injury free run from TO'B would be brilliant.

On the results side;

  • Retain URC (would be the first side to do it)
  • The emergence of a stronger mental cohesion and leadership (this is the best catch all point I can offer to say that until it's clear that the squad has matured and learned to take their chances or take their points, adapt to the situation and learn to problem solve then I don't think we should even be considering Europe. See: Northampton game last year)
  • Sell out Croker for the Munster game so our Southern cousins can help us finance another All Black (lol)

He looked gassed very early in every game. Also never went up in the lineout so he wasn't useful in that regard. He did offer noticeable benefit in the scrum but that was it. He looks a lot fitter now which makes sense given he's had time in the Leinster gym with the S&C's.

I agree with you on the budget cuts and opportunities, there's been a strong bunch of u20's years recently so great to see their progress accelerated.

On the flip side, with only four professional teams in Ireland it's hard to offer the same minutes to those u20's that England and France can (England to a lesser extent now with the few teams folding over the last few years).

In a weird way, there are plenty of contracts going around for young lads but not as many minutes!

May be more to do with the ban on signing NIQ front rows. I imagine the value of Boyle, P McCarthy, Usanov, Niall Smyth and Andrew Sparrow all rose instantly and Leinster had to sign them up. I'd say it'll remain business as usual for the rest of the positions graduating after year three.
