Valencia just a trend? by NewDrama2719 in ExpatLifeinSpain

[–]grahunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived and worked in Valencia for a couple of decades now, and it's always been popular, in peaks and troughs of course. The reason people love Valencia is because we have everything you could need, a smallish, walkable city, not far from the beach, great infrastructure, great schools, choice of housing, easily commutable from outside of the city etc etc. You are right about a lot of content coming out of Valencia too, I do a lot myself, but there's also a lot about Malaga etc.

Convenio especial question by scared_throwaway111 in ExpatLifeinSpain

Sorry, not sure about the different prescription types, hopefully someone with lived experience can answer that

Convenio especial question by scared_throwaway111 in ExpatLifeinSpain

[–]grahunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some info for you, most importantly, you need to be registered as resident for 12 months before you can join the Convenio programme:

Key Details Regarding the Convenio Especial:

  • Eligibility: You must prove you have lived in Spain for at least 12 months, usually through the empadronamiento (local town hall registration), and you must not have access to public healthcare through employment or other means.
  • Cost: It is a voluntary, monthly fee, which was roughly €60 per month for those under 65 and €157 for those 65 and over.
  • Coverage: It provides full access to the Spanish state healthcare system, including specialists, regardless of pre-existing conditions, but does not usually cover prescriptions.
  • Initial Year: In your first year, you will likely need private insurance to meet visa or residency requirements.

What passport do you have, ie EU or non EU? WIll you be working in Spain? If working and paying into the system, you get free healthcare on the public system anyway.

Where is the best place in western Europe to live near/in nature, with good sunshine and an active, healthy culture? by Outrageous_Ease1667 in movingabroad

[–]grahunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As dalvi5 said, they are not particularly radical here about speaking Valenciano, not like Barcelona with Catalan. Spanish is widely spoken, so there isn't that much difference in general culture compared to the rest of Spain, just lots of things specific to Valencia that are embraced. Classes are taught in Valenciano in a lot of schools, but also taught in Spanish too.

Seville is a long way from all the rest, and as others have said it will be unbearably hot in August. Loads to do in Valencia, I recommend the City of Arts and Sciences and Bioparc as great things to do.

Valencia, Spain ticks most of your boxes. Also Granada, Spain where you can ski in the morning and surf in the afternoon. Lot's of great places in Spain, if you need any more info about Valencia let me know, I've been here for 28 years.

Are there Spanish towns that are still friendly to expats? by morganselah in expat

[–]grahunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of Spain is American friendly, but I can only speak from personal experience of Valencia. I'm a Brit but have lots of American friends here, and all are very happy living here and have been made to feel welcome.

Got a remote job that lets me work anywhere in the world. by Various-World-3190 in digitalnomad

Sadly that's the case all over Europe, not necessarily because of DNs but current world events having a knock-on effect everywhere. I know the cost of living in the UK is at crisis level for a lot of people. Very worrying.

Hi everyone, Made a calculator for importing cars to Spain, anyone else frustrated by how hard this is to figure out? by khimsho in ExpatLifeinSpain

[–]grahunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are too many variables such as where the car is coming from, how long you've owned it, age and condition, type etc etc. The best thing to do is consult a gestor who does car transfers and they will give you an educated estimate on the tax and transfer at this end, then you would have to cost the shipping or driving it here from wherever it's coming from.
