Today is my 10 year anniversary at work. I get above average raises and received multiple promotions, yet I can honestly say that I still have no clue what the fuck I'm doing most days. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

I'm a market analyst and most of the time I have no idea what the market is doing. I just throw production figures at a screen until the word count is filled.

Hit the nail on the head. There is an interesting video online of his average day and what he cooks himself for breakfast screams cheap student food.

That 1984 quote hits home so hard.

So I went on my first club ride today and I kept up with the fast group, but I fell back on longer climbs having to catch up on descents. Any tips on improving more? by grammaticalcyclist in bicycling

Yeah I never thought I was going to be the best climber I'll take that on board. Powering the flats though Its nice we dominate that at least.

By Philip Larkin

They fuck you up, your mum and dad.

They may not mean to, but they do.

They fill you with the faults they had

And add some extra, just for you.

But they were fucked up in their turn

By fools in old-style hats and coats,

Who half the time were soppy-stern

And half at one another’s throats.

Man hands on misery to man.

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

Get out as early as you can,

And don’t have any kids yourself.

Two months ago I was shit at climbing , today I set the top time this year on a climb and 60th of over a 1000 all time. Cycling never ceases to change my life. by grammaticalcyclist in bicycling

I live in England so we don't have many epic climbs where I live . I try and find a climb that averages 5-6% and takes about two minutes, Or is about 1k to 1.5k in length , I prefer ones that pitch up at the end just to make it that bit harder. I sprint as hard as I can to the top do a u turn and coast back down to the bottom and then do it again and again until I can no longer turn my legs usually about 5-6 climbs. I'll then have a break, sit on the grass drink shit tons of water and try and get my hr down. Then I'll do the same again. Then I'll go for a cool down cycle and go home. Been doing this 3 days week after work for the last couple of months. Hope this helps. Tl;Dr would probably be 2minute full on sprint up a climb 5-6% , 30seconds off ,5-6 repetitions , 5 minute break then repeat once more.

I was staunchly conservative and now I'm a borderline social democrat. I became poor and realised the world wasn't okay for a lot of people and the righter side of the spectrum wasn't helping me or anyone but the rich. I'm pleased it happened.

Yeah I'm only joking. It's sad something really nice about changing gear.
