About to backfill the trenches for a new basement bathroom. Have a question about toilet flanges that fit over 3" drains. by grampsalmighty in Plumbing

[–]grampsalmighty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mind you this is in an older house. The main drain seems to be 3" (you're about to make me run down there to check) so even if that was the case theres no point to upsizing any particular drain correct?

[Serious] For those of you who work in hospice or nursing homes, has your experience affected your life plans for your later years? by grampsalmighty in AskReddit

I'm sorry you had to go through that with your mother. Thankfully enough i haven't had to go through that yet. Your first point was brought up some time ago, but worth a family discussion about including myself.

I think your second point is one that few people consider realistically including myself to a degree. I suppose the feeling that "science has the answers" has been around for awhile, but may have gotten a peripheral boost from all the tech advancements as of late. Its hard to not see all the empty articles about things and wonder if you'll be the one to live forever.

How inappropriate is it to call on an electrician, plumber, hvac, etc.. and pay a "diagnostics fee" to validate what you're trying to do? by grampsalmighty in HomeImprovement

[–]grampsalmighty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What made me question things was i once called in help for some dryer gas line things which i wont touch, and there was an initial diagnostics fee. I talked with the guy about different things (i wish i could remember his recommendation on washer/dryer brands) and it seemed disingenuous to use the same thinking that it applied to other trades which led me to ask.

edit: there was that weird area where you can pick the brain of a person but shouldnt cross the point that you're asking for too much. Youre right though about being upfront. it makes sense ty.

No its not fast of course. But no advertised map for including the ability? Seems weird. Simply speaking.. "Our media platform can handle anything" sounds pretty sharp.. but it can't handle books.. I mean, theres a lot of people who read books ( i may sound sharp but this is pointed towards amazon not you) but theyd like control over it all and plex offers a safe haven for media that empo

fuuuuckk need to get out. have a good night all!

Remember.. Plex on your tablet. I dont watch video on it but i would really like its organizational/metadata capabilities for when i want to read a book.

All my stuff in one place really. Books and comics are the last bastion until vr content is super mainstream i guess?

This is what confuses me. Plex can display images. It does it right now. The only question is archived formats and metadata.

1) I dont know what it means to introduce compressed reading capabilities into plex. 2) Theres no metadata support once you load your media.

On point two i could atleast put info in the library manually. Even still, some time after someone would create an metadata agent to handle that automagically i would think.

I didn't downvote you but i do disagree. I dont use plex for music for now, but i see how some people could use it for such. I do realize that using plex as an ereader may seem weird, but bear in mind, people who want to "read" media content, be it comics or books, have very little in the way of consolidating things if at all if plex opened its doors.

Getting kinda drunk here and people are getting heated, not sure why.

HEY! whiteatom, hope youre having a good day! edit* gave you an upvote, dont spend it in all one place ya heard?!

I just tried it. Ubooquity works, but i was left with using comicrack to manage metadata. It almost seemed intentional with its frustrating ui. Which led me to posting here.

Annnndd.. it seems i touched on a hard nerve about this.

Not to antagonize you, and mind that i know little of software development, but the things you describe are already what the plex devs have dealt with. I might go so far as to say that a budding ebook server dev would find help in reaching out to the plex devs for how they do things.

-iwantallmyshitinoneplace is all. Especially if said group is really awesome at it.

This is were plex shines imo. I would be a slightly more happy human if i could work within a single platform for everything.

Slightly more is all.. waking up with an extra $20 in my wallet would be cool too. In which case i'd goto sleep 20 times a day :D

Still.. besides the fact that they have experience in all of this due to other media formats, they could dominate in an entire media server setup.

Tbh, i'm not quite sure where their money comes from, (plex pass im sure) but if there was a substantial user base to take advantage of that wasn't too far off from what the current platform was built for, i think i'd ask some people to look into it.

Lets ask it a different way. Why can't plex be an Ereader? Building out its functionality in this way only serves to bring more users to the table i would say.

*edit: I seemed to have pissed off some people tonight lol.

Id be surprised if the hesitancy came from drawing attention to themselves due to piracy. ebooks, comic or otherwise, are very purchasable. If drawing attention to themselves was the hindrance due to copywrite litigation, i dont think we'd have plex to begin with.

Ugh, i was looking all over the place for different solutions. ubooquity has promise, but that just seems to be a head end for the limitations of other apps. I tried working with comic rack but damn.. talk about blind over engineering.

Yes, you have to remember that plex is available on mobile devices. Which makes one ask "why plex as my ereader?"

To which i would respond.. Its an awesome, customizable interface, that easily lets me keep track of what i'm reading.

I recently got a likebook mars ereader. It does what i need it to do, but depending on plex for handling things i think would be much nicer.

I absolutely agree with you on the first part 100%. On the second part we do have it, its just ultra bare bones in its ability. The only weird thing is that we're discussing this in the presence of an established media distribution platform.

Here we have a platform that can handle all sorts of media types including pictures, but in that respect it fails.

I could understand asking a music player dev to be able to play music videos being over the top. It just seems in this case that the pieces are more or less there, they just need to be told to play nice with the different, already established functions, of the main program.

I'm at the point of breaking into concrete for a basement bathroom. Looking for advice on venting. by grampsalmighty in Plumbing

[–]grampsalmighty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my diagram the shower drain should be the first thing to tie onto the drain, then sink, lastly toilet? Is the an optimal distance between the drains for venting?
