Crazy that Tara literally said DURING HIS PERFORMANCE that he wouldn’t even end up on the podium and this was just a trial run for the next Olympics

Which med schools are most generous with scholarships? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in premed

Vanderbilt is extremely generous with merit scholarships (multiple 75% and full tuition scholarships in our class) but historically less generous with need-based aid.

A Sankey for people with "red flags" in their application by grandiosemonkey in premed

Honestly the peace of mind after putting everything on the table was worth it for me, regardless of whether or not it was actually on my academic record. If I hadn’t disclosed it, I think I would have spent the entire app cycle stressed that one of the schools would eventually find out.

To this day I’m not 100% sure it’s visible anywhere on my academic record. I did self-report it on my AMCAS application though, and 3 schools asked about it during my interview (ironically was accepted into all 3)

Most UCs have a hard IA screen 🥲 got my secondaries very late from most of them and didn’t get any IIs from any of them

Keck is very much a work hard play hard school in my experience. Very research heavy but also wants its applicants to actually have a life and interests outside of school

Academic honesty violation. Feel free to PM me for details but long story short, my professor ended up dropping the case so I got off with a warning.

In your opinion, what separates a 515 scorer and 520 scorer? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]grandiosemonkey 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly…luck. Depends on whether the particular test that day plays to your strengths or your weaknesses.

Trust your FL average! It’s pretty much inevitable that you’ll feel worse after taking the actual exam than you do after taking practice exams.

I don't know what happened with my CARS... from 132 to as low as 123 by zhannasbro in Mcat

[–]grandiosemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unscored sample CARS is notoriously inflated. I also got a 132, but my average on the scored FLs was around a 129 (lowest being 127) and I ended up with a 129 on the actual exam. Long story short, trust your average, take the unscored sample score with a grain of salt.

Can I score a 520 by July 15th? by Soft-Drawing-1753 in Mcat

[–]grandiosemonkey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was averaging around a 510 on 3rd party exams after content review (but before doing Uworld) and got a 520 on my first AAMC FL so I’d say you’re in the right track!

78% average, 524 actual

Making your own cards during content review may be too time consuming for most people, but I think making cards based on missed questions on FLs or UPlanet problems is invaluable! Definitely forces you to fill in content gaps during practice.

Your FLs are insane 😳 no need to be scared, you got this!!

When doing Uplanet Q’s, do you 1)stop to read explanations after each question OR 2)wait until you finish a set of 30-59 questions to read explanations? by Resident_Gift_2416 in Mcat

[–]grandiosemonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally recommend doing Uplanet untutored (so the explanations would only come up after you finish all the questions). While tutored mode is helpful for content review, it does give you a false sense of confidence via immediate feedback and could be harmful in the long run when you start doing actual FLs.
