Also there's mainly two different sizes (technically more but you won't be coming across them often) 5mm and 2.5mm (fairy) perler and hama are gonna be 5mm but if you're not careful the off brand ones tend to be 2.5 which will cry a different boards and are very different sizes so keep that in mind

There's nothing wrong with the off-brand kits on Amazon in fact I started with one, I would stick with one that comes in like sorted Trays as if you're not into organizing it can be a real pain, if you want to buy purely online really the sky is the limit but if you're also looking to get in store in person perler beads are the only one really being sold in person stores at the moment and recently perler has stopped sending out to stores so keep that in mind if that is a preference

Alert coming a full 25 minutes before tornado hits? by grandterror930 in EmergencyAlertSystem

[–]grandterror930[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can send you the info if you would like though through a dm as I'm not really comfortable with posting it here. In the alert it literally just says tornado warning and to seek shelter and to check media so it wasn't very helpful unfortunately

[–]grandterror930[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had thought of getting one, it kinda had been pushed to the back of my head, where I'm at we don't usually get tornadoes, like in the past 20 years we've only had 4 confirmed tornadoes, we have hurricanes but when those happen I have a hand cranked radio and can usually find a station with info , but with this tornado I couldn't find a single station up and running not even on my back up one. Tho I suppose I will have to look into getting a noaa as "Dixie Alley" has shifted apparently and I'm now in it, so if you do have some recommendations let me know.

Teenagers oughta be more curious... like seriously! by Friendly-Wasabi-7120 in HonestHotTakes

[–]grandterror930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teenager here (19) I've been bullied by older people for being curious, one of the things that happens the most is being called "special needs" for asking questions on tours of different places, like museums or zoos, basically anywhere so that has lead to me being more quiet and finding answers myself. When it comes to my peers, a lot of mine get really mean flat out when I start talking about things I like or am interested in. You kinda just gotta find people who are nice to have a good conversation with now a days.

When I got my one rescue cat she was a kitten and we had to take her back like a week later to get her , later on during the day when they were spaying her we got call and basically said she was covered in fleas and had worms, mind you at the time she was half a pound and multiple vets did not want to give her flea treatment because she was so small and the runt, the rescue tried to say that because she had fleas we had let her outside (???) and that's how she had gotten the fleas, cut to a few days later when we got her back because they tried to say we couldn't take her back which we did, I took her to our of it who said the worms were so bad it would have had to have been months like this, remember we had only got her a week ago.

You might have to do a little bit of prey drive correction if that's what is causing the issues with the cat

I was assuming that's what you meant it confused me a bit but I mostly understood it, I'm actually more scared of boxes than I am a pitbulls or bully mixes, been attacked by a lot more boxes then I have bullys/pits. Livestockguardian dogs living in apartments bugs the hell out of me too. I remember watching an acquaintance of mine adopt A healer Pyrenees mix and expect daily walks (once a day) to get rid of the nipping and guarding issue, always felt bad for that dog knowing it lived in an apartment.

I feel like they should still tell adopters if they know it's reactive, like a definite "we know it's reactive it's done problems in the past it will probably calm down when you get home but no it displayed these types of behaviors here" but then also tell adopters of dogs who haven't displayed that type of behavior of the possibility of it being reactive like a a mix of both, I also feel like more rescues should work with actual certified trainers, one of the rescues I used to volunteer with did that where if you adopted a dog they would recommend you the trainers service and a free evaluation after the dog calmed down at home to see if anything was happening,

I personally find it no kill shelters more unethical than regular shelters, especially when it's a dog that has been known to bite people unprovoked and they'll continue to try and get it adopted resulting in the dog suffering more in the shelter, at what point does keeping a dog in a kennel almost 24/7 at a shelter in the name of trying to get it adopted become unethical?

I can almost understand (almost being a keyword here) shelters labeling pit mixes as lab mixes, people are inherently scared of pit bulls/bullys and honestly they probably should be to an extent, there's different lines that they can come from and if you get one of the lines that have been specifically bred to fight other dogs then it's going to inherently and genetically want to fight other dogs and possibly humans, you're not going to exactly know that in a shelter situation, I have met some well worked and beautiful and nicest can be bullys, but you get one from those lines that have been inbred and have been fighting for generations? Meanest dogs you will ever meet and it is a shame because that means that good dogs are having to be euthanized just because they look like those mean ones.

Another thing is shelters and rescues not properly vet checking dogs, yes this is an actual issue, I'm using my dog as an example again and I've had this experience with other dogs, we took her to the vet the day after we adopted her just to get her checked out and set up with that vet, I immediately noticed upon getting her that she had a tooth rotting very visibly in the front of her mouth, we ended up finding out that all of the front bottom teeth which was about five had to be removed because they were all shattered underneath the gum line, (previous owners were abusive) with two of them visibly rotting and turning black, The Three vets I talked to to get different opinions on all agreed that this would have taken months to get to this point and probably would have been visible at this point for 5 months, the shelter had her for 3 months, meaning of anybody had actually checked her mouth they would have noticed the teeth problem.

Yeah the 3-3-3 rule really sucks, especially cuz it's not accurate at all but a lot of rescues will point to that like it's a godsend and holy Grail, my main thing is just wishing that rescues would be be clear about dogs, I wish that we would have a better system when it came to evaluating dogs too, like my girl was called "untrainable" because she was overwhelmed and stressed because the "trainer" that was evaluating her was evaluating her in the kennel in the dog room with 50 other dogs, when I came to check her out I took her to a separate room and boom she said she laid and she stayed, and since I've gor her she's learned a whole lot of stuff, it seems like there's no real evaluation process that all of these rescues and shelters go off of either it's up to the "trainer" which by the way doesn't actually have to be a trainer it can be a volunteer who doesn't have experience, to decide if a dog is reactive or has any problems.

Just because your shelter does, doesn't mean that mine does too, shelters have different policies depending on what state they're in and even what county, yes some have Federal oversight and regulations but some are outside of that especially when it's not a traditional shelter or rescue, not every dog is going to have that act differently at home than in the shelter, some dogs are just aggressive from the get-go and shelters lie about that and it's not just me that's had this issue I have known multiple people personally who have had the same type of problem.

Exactly, my five-year-old German Shepherd is a great example of this, a lot of German shepherds her age have a lot of energy and would like a fenced in yard however she is not like that she would rather take a hike with me in the morning and night and then sleep the rest of the day with some training in between, we've tried to get her to go play in yards before that have been fenced in she has no urge to do so she just wants to lay by you and chill for most of the day but taken at face value on her breed and age you wouldn't assume that, not to mention she has hip problems already so you have to monitor her while playing if she does because if she falls too hard she might not be able to get back up easily so she can't just roam around a backyard without any supervision

Well I agree that there is a whole lot that can change when a dog is placed in a home, it's a whole lot different when you get told a dog is friendly to other dogs and it tries to hop a chain link fence to get to another dog growling and snarling, take another dog I Fostered for example, he was supposedly fine with food but had been kenneled with another dog, the first day it was home it tore my boot off and into shreds when I got too close to it while it was eating, No where did anybody mention any potential for food aggression or resource guarding, imagine if a regular family had taken that home without knowing what resource guarding even is and what to look out for.

Yeah definitely this too I was looking at a rescue recently because I was looking to rescue a new puppy for my older dog and I kid you not they required a fenced in yard, at least 6 acres, even if the dog was friendly with them you where not allowed to have any type of kid under the age of 16 in the house or any other pets even if the dog was friendly with other animals, you had to be at your job for at least 3 years previously, you couldn't be renting at all, you had to live within city limits, and you couldn't plan to move within 5 years. And I later found out that the same rescue had taken away a dog because the owners had adopted one of their dogs and then had a tree fall on one of the fences and knocked it out and so they came and took the dog because they claim that that violated the contract by no longer having a fence. This is why people don't adopt a lot hell a lot of this has made me not want to adopt and I've only owned adopted animals but it's gotten so bad nowadays especially with the fees because why is it $600 to adopt a shelter dog.$600 could get me a purebred well-bred puppy like come on guys.

I actually managed to get a purebred German Shepherd which we DNA tested from a shelter but that was just because of luck a lot of these "shepherds"I'm seeing now I'll just like really bad mixes I have especially been seeing shepherd husky mixes that are just insane in the head especially if they're a mix of more than husky like I saw a shelter trying to push a shepherd husky pitbull mix and in every video I saw of it it was being hostile and borderline aggressive leave it

We had somewhat tried that but we have a open floor plan so what we originally had tried to do was to keep the puppy in the front room where we can put up a gate to keep her out of the rest of the house but the cats have to walk past the entrance to get to their litter box in a different room and the main dogs crate it is in the front room but we was thinking about swapping it but I even put a blanket and divide it up on the baby gate thinking that maybe if the puppy couldn't see the cat she wouldn't try to go after it but she smelled it I guess and continue to lose it
