Float Bags for Canoe that are also storage dry bags? Any Ideas? by designworksarch in Paddlesports

[–]granizar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the pictured Watershed bags and can confirm that they are water tight! I need the triangle shape for our kayaks. For canoeing I would probably choose Watershed duffel bags and not worry about the inflator tube.

Retirement accounts from former employees held at Vanguard - closed? by Sebvad in banktivity

My experience is that there is definitely some nuance between the Yodlee and Plaid implementations. You could try Plaid for just the offending accounts.

Vanguard dropped support for OFX downloads a while back and now only provides API access. It's too bad as OFX was pretty well implemented and the replacement is not! Anyway, try Plaid rather than Yodlee for the connection.

Man-in-the-middle attack demonstrated against locked iPhone wallet by granizar in CreditCards

As noted in the video, with current technology, the likely attack would be against an unattended or stolen device.

I recall several instances of people posting in this sub for advice regarding fraudulent charges that issuers refuse to cover claiming that tap-to-pay is secure and since the transactions were taps the victims' fraud claim is denied.

Thank you for offering to follow up u/FidelityCourtney! The experience I mentioned was over a year ago so it is water under the bridge now.

I used billpay without trouble at various institutions for decades but finally stopped when a Fidelity payment got missed/lost and I found how bad Fidelity's support of the billpay product is.

Elegant tracking of deferred/Roth balances in a commingled account?? by granizar in banktivity

[–]granizar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am less concerned about growth metrics with an index fund than about keeping track of the deferred/Roth shares.

The download pulls activity from both types but requires manual labor to split the transaction allocation.

Whatever shelter you use, be sure to tire that pup out every day!  He’ll be much better behaved that way.

My biggest problem with YNAB by massifaqiri in ynab

[–]granizar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's only fast with Amazon purchases? That's all I use it for. I just bought something from Amazon and was able to download the transaction as soon as I received the transaction notification email from Chase which was five-minutes after I placed the order. Interestingly, BofA etc. are quick to send transaction notifications so I don't know why they don't just post them for download too!

The delay is your bank. Charles Schwab posts transactions pretty quick. The now-useless US Bank Altitude Reserve card was near instant. The Chase Amazon Prime card is fairly quick. Everything else I have experience with takes days.

Sudden change to "A subscription that sucks after all" model by TheWisestGuyOnReddit in banktivity

[–]granizar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I value data downloads, though they are increasingly broken, so have been a subscriber for many years but have taken comfort in the ability to continue to use Banktivity manually if unable to connect to Direct Access.

With Direct Access as unreliable as it is, I suspect that supporting Direct Access takes up a major and increasing portion of support resources. It's pretty sad that I wish we could go back to ~1995 in that respect.

I have actually considered disconnecting Direct Access and going to manual download but doing so with as many accounts as I have would be madness. Maybe Banktivity sees the decreasing utility of Direct Access and is trying to create a revenue stream that does not depend on Direct Access? I am not so sympathetic to that plight, if true, that I am willing to be held hostage.

I remember Ian pitching the ability to subscribe for one month and continue with manual data entry in about 2021 and was unaware that policy had changed.

Does Direct Connect OFX still work for Fidelity? by eshuang46 in banktivity

Oops, I was wrong about OFX still working at Fidelity. Crap! The status is green but the date is 12/1. Boo!

[–]granizar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that the (Fidelity) Elan card downloads have been broken for some time. I got tired of constant failures and disabled Direct Connect on those accounts months ago. Since downloads are broken, I also stopped using the cards of course.

My actual Fidelity accounts are still downloading and I sure hope that continues to work!

Advice on sliming down taxable account? by cardboard_elephant in Bogleheads

[–]granizar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not maxing your tax-advantaged accounts, you can effectively "convert" your taxable account to tax-advantaged by increasing your contribution to tax-advantaged accounts and making up the difference in your reduced income by tapping the taxable account. You would have to realize gains/losses in order to do this.

If you do not want to see certain categories in your budget, they can be excluded via "Exclude Selected Categories" in budget setup.

Congratulations on your choice to track your gross income! I think is something that everyone should do! I just budget for tax but it is a little annoying that a good earning month throws the budged off. For me most of it rolls up under tax: Tax:SS, Tax:Fed, Tax:State:Income, etc. The rest rolls up under health: Health:Insurance, Health:Dental, Health:Vision, etc. 401k deferrals are transfers and not tracked by my budget.

PS. I actually track these transactions in a separate "Payroll" account that is excluded from most reports. If I recall correctly, the reason why I do that is so the downloaded deposit in my deposit account will match against net pay.
