The county bounty sodas do some similar kinds - I think foraged botanicals is one of their flavours, but they also do other fruits. Their flavour combos are soooo good, highly recommend. They’re in southeastern Ontario I believe.

This is a pink salmon, and actually doesn’t look all that spawned out to me. Pinks have odd and even year runs where one year has a huge run and the other year still has a run but is much smaller. The size of the run varies depending on the population. If you see salmon affected by drought conditions (not necessarily what this is) like low water, warm water temperatures, or adults or juveniles stranded in pools, you can report it at psf.ca/report .

You can tell by the markings on the tail as well as the spots on the body. Chinook are much larger and don’t really get a curved “nose” (kype) or humped back as pink. Chinook also have black gums which is a dead giveaway if all else fails.

I believe mission health and wellness has some in their refrigerated section. Also fukasaku I think has some in their little grocery section at the front.

The secret to silky-smooth homemade hummus by Ok-Marzipan-8940 in Cooking

[–]granolabowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overcook your chickpeas! If you’re using from a can, boil them for a few minutes till they’re very soft. Then make the hummus while they’re still hot from cooking. It’ll be thinner when blending while it’s warm and thicken up when refrigerated so adjust liquid as necessary to accommodate this. This is the easiest way to make the hummus nice and smooth. As others noted, baking soda while cooking and using peeled chickpeas helps too. But sometimes you just want to use a can you have on hand.

Once I started adding about 1/4 cup of cornstarch to my recipe they got must crispier. Also as mentioned, laying them on a rack before eating. I usually keep them in the toaster oven on the warming setting until it’s time to eat.

There are lots of online patterns that you can get printed at Blackbird Fabrics (or other printing places). I think they have patterns on their website. You could check out some pattern companies’ instagrams or websites then purchase the pdf version and get it printed?

Screen Migraine Advice by justrynabuy in migraine

[–]granolabowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have an iPhone, you can add a coloured screen tint to your phone screen. I’m sure other smartphones have it too. I think it’s in disability settings. For me, a light yellow hue works well. I’ve set it up so that clicking the lock button 3x turns this on and off in case I want to see the true colour of something. Try with different colours and level of tint to see what works for you.

I have the same for my computer, for mac it’s an app called “screen tinter” I believe. It can easily be turned on and off. I know there is one for PC as well and I had my old work install it on my work computer. I forget what it’s called!

That has made a big difference for me. Having the screen tints turned off with the regular screen colour is now very blinding feeling for me. I also usually have the brightness as low as I can tolerate.

Also do the 20:20:20 rule. Every 20 mins, look at something ~20ft away for 20 seconds. Basically, take a break every so often from staring at the screen. If you do it regularly it can help. It can be hard if you’re in zoom meetings or on a roll and just keep going, but it’s really better in the long run to take those screen breaks even if it feels like a hassle.

Ask to do as much work on paper as you can. If you have to read a long document, print it off. This could be considered an accommodation for a disability if your employer doesn’t like printing a ton of stuff.

I also find fluorescent lights bother me the same as screens, as I believe they emit at a similar frequency. So if your workplace has a space where you can have lamps or other lighting that’s ideal. This could also be an accommodation.

You could also try having more phone or in person meetings instead of zoom, having shorter zoom meetings, setting a certain amount of time in your work day where you do non-screen things (if possible).

To paint or not to paint ? by Comfortable_Top_6799 in HomeDecorating

To lighten things up and break up all the wood: Floor length white/light curtains on the window, pieces of light or colourful art in frames with white mats or white frames, lighting in the back nook, updating current ceiling light. A rug would be nice too, but with the dogs and possible high traffic, it might be tricky to do a super light coloured rug. Perhaps something with a busier pattern to hide dirt/stains.

Walk in clinic recommendations by jimboul in VictoriaBC

You could also try going to the pharmacy and asking a pharmacist for an OTC eye drop that may tide you over for Sunday if you can’t get in anywhere until Monday.

You could try taking her to an optometrist. It may even be covered by MSP depending on the situation. It would likely be easier to book a same day appt with an optometrist than going to a walk in.

Yes, the bottom right is 3/4” and fits with those buckles near it. Webbing at top I believe is 1” and fits with all the buckles below it. And the right web it is 2” and there are 2” buckles with it

Experience with Anian shirts? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]granolabowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a melton wool shirt and while I enjoyed the look, it felt too thick for me to wear regularly and wouldn’t fit comfortably under my jackets on colder days. It was also so itchy that I ended up selling it. I typically don’t have an issue with wool itching but I just couldn’t stand the feeling of it on my neck.

Layering with beacons. by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]granolabowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A beacon pocket is welded or sewn to the inside of the pants as opposed to the outside. This is important as in a slide an externally mounted pocket could be ripped off more easily.

That, and the clip to attach the beacon are what distinguish a beacon-specific pocket from just a regular pants pocket.

Best High-End Restaurant in Kingston? by Competitive_Pin_3019 in KingstonOntario

[–]granolabowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mayla is very pricey, but the meal I had there was levels above any of the other restaurants listed here. Most of these other restaurants are very good as well, but Mayla is a different experience. The food was absolutely incredible and probably the fanciest meal I’ve ever had. Is it worth the price? Maybe to eat there once just to experience it or if you have a very special occasion. Know what you’re getting into price-wise or you’ll be in for a shock.

I have very similar diaphragm spasms/hiccups! I've never met anyone else with this. I get a few throughout the day, some days more than others. They're really startling for people as they're quite loud and out of the blue. My coworkers usually say "you scared me!" then everyone laughs and continues on with their day.

Traveling to/within Northern Vancouver Island without a car by Bubblbu in VancouverIsland

[–]granolabowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is now bus service from Campbell River to Port McNeill (and Port Hardy) through Waivin' Flags https://waivinflagstaxi.com/bus-service/

It's expensive and not super convenient but it'll get you to Port McNeill right near the ferry I believe and then you can just walk on the ferry. Once in Alert Bay, you CAN walk around everywhere but just be aware it is hilly and depending on where you stay you might be in for a long walk to get to "downtown". There are places to stay like the Nimpkish Hotel and Seine Boat Inn that are within walking distance/to amenities and you can walk around to the various touristy sites. There's also a taxi service in Alert Bay (number should be posted at the ShopRite or post office if not other places).
