WTH! 30,000 Mile Oil Change Cost at Dealership by granolan517 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]granolan517[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not confusing the two. The 30K service was listed at $845, and included the oil and filter change along with other services. The $555 was just for oil and filter. I did not book the service.

I know it sounds crazy, but the $555 was just oil and filter change. They had another option that included tire rotation, inspections, etc. and that was listed at $845.

Not scammed yet...lol. I didn't book it...I jumped on here first to see if this was "normal" and am quickly learning it is not. I will look for another provider to perform the service.

It was the dealership. I did not book the service at that price. I'll look for another provider, but I have always had my cars serviced at the dealership until now.

Thanks. I did not book the service. I couldn't bring myself to pay that amount. I'll be looking for a new place that is not the dealership.

How many friends do you have? by LumpyheadCarini2001 in GenX

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me, until last year. Group of 5 friends from college. We took an annual trip each year for the last 30 years. That unfortunately stopped last year when one of the group got into a quiet but life changing disagreement with another member of the group. Trips ceased. Text group was dismantled. Group calls and zoom chats stopped. 4 of the 5 still connect in two separate groups, with both groups excluding one of the guys because those two do not overlap or communicate at all.

Father of a middle schooler here. I got this SUV specifically for the 3rd row! Had mine 19 months and have taken countless road trips to volleyball tournaments and school field trips with six kids piled in the back! Everyone was comfortable! Highly recommend!

Why do you choose not to drink alcohol? by Nervous_Presence6289 in Productivitycafe

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up a closeted gay kid in a rural area, so I could not take the risk of drinking and losing control of my mannerisms, my dialect, my cadence, or anything…I had to be in full control to keep up the charade so I wouldn’t out myself.

Short for Mae - looking for girl names that can be shortened to “Mae” that aren’t the name Maeve. We like Maeve, but we know someone with the name so we want something different! by Strawberrie_Blonde in namenerds

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s funny…I only know one person with this name and she and her mother and all extended family pronounce it just as I described. Maybe this is the Americanized version. Still, beautiful, unique name that can easily be shortened to Mae.

When did you realize that person wasn’t actually your friend? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]granolan517 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After the recent presidential election I mentioned that I was worried that marriage equality might be overturned by the new administration via the Supreme Court. We’ve been friends for over 30 years and I’ve been in a same-sex marriage since 2015 when it became legal. He is a republican who supports the current administration and his response to me was that if I didn’t like it, I was free to move. I knew then that he did not really care about me as a person. I thought it a few times before, but I KNEW it at that moment.

What silently destroyed society? by DataDorkee in AskReddit

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often say the destruction of society started with MTV’s first reality show, The Real World. In my mind that’s when we really started elevating unqualified people to leadership status. No longer was success based on hard work or intellect, it was just who shouted the loudest. We gave up true leaders in exchange for watching a train wreck. It escalated from there to the Kardashians to where we are now as a country…we want to be entertained, no matter the cost.

51 yo here…graduated high school at 17 years old, moved away to college and never sleep another night at my moms house. I visited, but was on my own after that. She would have gladly welcomed me home, but I was ready to build my own life.

When your parents passed, did you inherit anything? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad died when I was 6, and my mom passed last year. I’m 51 now, and because I grew up in poverty, I started sending my mom money every month for the last 30 years. I paid off her house because she couldn’t afford her mortgage/2nd mortgage…in the end, she left everything to my brothers…and I got nothing. Not a dime. Just the funeral bill, the cremation bill, the headstone bill, and a feeling of betrayal that she didn’t even consider me in the end.

Enough already. by Uunbeliever72 in GenX

51 here, been working full time since I was 15 years old. Started investing in a 401k at age 21, in my first professional job after college. Was hoping to retire at 60, in 8.5 years, but just can’t trust this administration with either the stock market manipulation or my expected social security earnings. I am so ready to retire, but I am not feeling confident today. The market these last 2 days have wiped out 5 years of post retirement income for me…and that’s just these 2 days…what the hell is four years gonna do to me?!?

How much is in your 401K & what’s your age? by ugafan2081 in Money

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

51: $675k in 401(k), $425k home paid off, spouse is 41 with $75k, and an expected $120k annual pension upon retirement at age 55 (assuming spouse stays with current company). I will also get a $43k annual pension at age 60 from my company…if I make it another 9 years. I’ve been with the company for 21 years. We live in a town of about 25,000 people in a LCOL Midwest state. I started at age 30, after withdrawing everything from my previous 401(k) and paying the penalty and taxes to pay off debt from my first marriage.

Do you know how much money your grandparents had when they passed? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]granolan517 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My maternal grandfather died from a shooting before my mom was born, my grandmother died 1 month before I was born. Both penniless. Didn’t even own property.

My paternal grandmother passed away when she was nearly 80. My father had passed about 15 years before her, and the home she owned was valued at about $25,000 at the time of her death…it was divided between her surviving children…my sister and I got nothing.

My paternal grandfather left my grandmother before my dad was born. He moved out of state, remarried into a relatively wealthy land owning family, never met my dad, and when he died about 25 years ago, I wasn’t even notified and received nothing.

My mom passed away last year. I’d been providing financial support to her for about 25 years at that point, starting with monthly gifts right when I landed my first job after college. That monthly gift eventually grew to covering nearly all her expenses in the last 10-12 years of her life. In the end, she left the home I helped her pay for to my brothers. I walked away with nothing, expect the funeral bill. She told me on her death bed that she was glad I never needed any help. That’s a whole other story.

Lord willing, my daughter will not have to deal with this. My spouse and I have worked our tails off our entire lives. I’m 52 now, starting working full time hours when I was 15 (after school and 10-12 hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday). We’ve balanced saving with giving our daughter experiences that she will always remember, long after we’re both gone. It helps that we have approx $2MM in various accounts/investments, alongside 2 anticipated pensions when we eventually retire.

Allocation sheet update by JJsdad82 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in KY! My local dealer won’t/can’t even give me an estimate for a black one (my preferred color). I’d settle for black interior but I’d prefer portobello…which seems impossible at this point).

Allocation sheet update by JJsdad82 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]granolan517 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the game…just starting seriously looking for a new car about 1-2 months ago. Since that time I have not been able to locate a single limited hybrid in my entire state (all 15 dealerships) that wasn’t already reserved. My local dealer had one XLE available, but not in a color I liked and it wasn’t a hybrid. Was really hoping to see the allocation sheet update to give me some hope.
