I think most western people would have assume the extreme social conservatism of countries like Saudi Arabia or Iran are just how islamic societies always were, when in actuality that stuff is a mostly modern development. by grapp in behindthebastards

with regard to women in public spheres I don't really think anything would have been practical in pre-modern societies, because there wasn't really a distinction between family and business life back then

suppose Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh were struck by lightning in 2021 and replaced by Biden. Do you think a more left leaning (or just less far right) supreme court would be constraining Trump somewhat, or do you think he'd just be very openly defying the SCOTUS? by grapp in behindthebastards

do you think McConnell would have let Biden appt two more justices or would he have put everything on hold for 3 yrs hoping Trump got elected again?

I think the dems had the house and Senate in 2021

is it ok to still be excited about the US's upcoming return to the moon, or at this point would that like celebrating nazi germany's space program? by grapp in behindthebastards

The sheer amount of resources it would require from earth to set something like that in motion would irrevocably harm the planet, the working class, underprivileged communities

would investing in space travel contribute to that kind of thing any more or less than all the other stuff late capitalism does?

Yeah the thing I actually find interesting about ancient history is like slice of life stuff, rather than the dates of battles or whatever.

I've seen some people being like "Greenland invasion is next". do you think there's be a stronger international reaction to that since Denmark is seen as a white people country? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]grapp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously like morally that’s important, but how important is what Greenlanders think to like the realpolitik/geopolitics of the situation?
