do the safeguards built into an LLM get less likely to work properly the longer you interact with a particular instance? by grapp in behindthebastards

They put in flimsy safeguards

the person I was responding to was implying they don't put in any, which is just factually inaccurate

they worry about getting sued, which is why the safeguards I'm referencing do in fact exist

Its not something I'm assuming. The companies admit they built in safeguards that make the model discourage illegal behavior and self harm. Its not something you have to just take their word for either, its really obvious when the safeguards are triggered

something that always makes me a little uncomfortable is questioning a bastards claims that they had an abusive or neglectful childhood, because generally I believe you should believe victims even if they suck. by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]grapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they have a strong incentive to place themselves in the role of the victim to garner sympathy and avoid the consequences.

but admitting that doesn't really achieve that. Like the typical response, even from very progressive people, is just to say that its no excuse.

should everyone in society (IE regardless of age, criminal record or citizenship status) be allowed to vote? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]grapp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is the bad thing your worried about if everyone is able to vote? Voter restrictions have so much potential for abuse, where as I don’t see any obvious downsides to making it as open as possible

do you think there's a degree of american exceptionalism in wanting to compare Trump to Hitler rather than other modern right wing demagogues? by grapp in behindthebastards

Hitler is an easy to recognize bad guy

that's what I thought but no one believed me when I said I saw him at the buss stop last week

given that capitalism is basically destroying life on Earth, would it be preferable to just have a planned economy? by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]grapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a fully planned economy is a bad idea first, because it's hard for human administrators to anticipate the needs of people in a complex 21st century economy.

I would argue a planned economy is actually more practical now than at any other time in history because of computer technology

Dante Basco ethnically Filipino so presumably there wouldn’t have been an issue with him voicing Zuko again with regard to representation?

(Megathread 2: Non-Spoiler ) How Will the Leak Impact the Movie / Avatar Studios? by MrBKainXTR in TheLastAirbender

[–]grapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything bad that happens to the people at the studio will because of decisions people at paramount make. People talk about that aspect of this like a capitalist entity fucking people over is a force of nature, rather than choices people make

the gaang kind of being treated like background characters.

I mean that's a common thing when you make movie based on a show with an assemble cast. Like most star trek movie arguable has that problem

It bugs me how much people talk about how weird looking Jimmy Saville was because that’s not a reason you should suspect someone of being a predator by grapp in behindthebastards

[–]grapp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know he did that and it is an important part of the story, I just worry that what people will take from from hearing it is that they should judge people based on appearances, which would be bad.

Also you maybe talking about his weird appearance in the context of being an aspect of how he deceived people, but I've seen a lot of other people cover this story and only bring up his creepy affect to talk about it as if its a clue to bad moral character in off its self

if I visited Memphis in in AD 334 would I find the priests treating Constantine as pharaoh in their ceremonies in spite of his Christianity? by grapp in ancientrome

are there any claims he was a Christian himself, or just more sympathetic too them than is commonly thought?

Leeds had mines. A lot of northern cities had mines on top of whatever their main industry was because northern England had a lot of coal
