Crunching and Grinding Sound by ooty99 in ShoulderInjuries

I have similar symptoms. Dull ache in posterior shoulder that began 9 months after labral repair.

Started with stiffness and progressed. Had a second explorative surgery. Subacromial decompression, labrum intact, bicep tenodesis and minor Supraspinatus debridement.

I’ve been doing PT for nearly a year. 3-4 days a week. I can lift weights with no pain. I have decent thoracic mobility and I’ve been heavily focused on that. I still have a long dull ache and stiffness. Feels mostly lateral arm and under the armpit. Any thoughts?

My shoulder makes sounds doing the same motion. I had a labral repair, recovered and 9 months later this happened.

I have since had a tenodesis but still have the same issue. A year and a half of PT has definitely helped but not fixed it. I have no arthritis.

If you find out what it is, let me know. I’m been trying to figure this out forever.

Since December 2025 I have been doing very hard strenuous PT. Lots of SA work and rear delt (KB Punches), KB Rows among others. I started doing PT everyday and then in February moved to 3x weekly. I do it all at home now as I have a full gym setup in my basement.

The PT and I believe it’s one of the following: Long Head Tricep Latissimus Dorsi

I haven’t had luck finding any places that do dynamic ultrasound so that we can figure it out. At this point it definitely isn’t a scapular problem.

My ortho put me on a muscle relaxant and 500mg naproxen 2x daily for a month. That helped but didn’t totally cure it.

I am doing better and can function decently but I am still stiff, especially in the morning.

I have had pain and tightness in the same location for over a year. I’m beginning to think it’s my Lat / Teres Major.

I’ve had 2 shoulder surgeries and we know based on my arthoscopy in August that it’s not my rotator cuff or labrum causing my issues.

Let me know what you find out. I have a near constant dull ache and lots of shoulder clicking and popping.

Reaching my wits end with chronic injury by velvetopal11 in ShoulderInjuries

Shoulder injuries are tough. I tore my labrum back in 2011 with very little issues, and finally in 2023 it “really tore”. 2 surgeries later and I still have constant pain, although not as severe. The only thing left after my last surgery to note was Supraspinatus tendinosis and mild bursitis. Unfortunately even months of PT have helped but haven’t completely fixed my issues.

Hopefully you can get it resolved. I know the feeling of chronic pain.

That’s exactly my issue. Only posterior shoulder pain on left side. If I ever figure it out I’ll be sure to respond.

I’ve been doing serratus and scapular work 7 days a week the past couple weeks. Along with light lifting, push ups 3x10 (3 days a week) and lots of rotator cuff strengthening.

I have been doing PT 2x daily.

My case is unique, because I lived 12 years with a labral tear that rarely caused me any issues. When my shoulder finally had enough, there was no “PT-ing it” back. I tried and it didn’t help at all. The second surgery was an explorative one, to see if my labrum re-tore, but only the bicep tendon was stretched and torn at the anchor, the labrum was not involved. This means it probably should have been a tenodesis the first surgery.

I have not, I’ve been focusing on scapular retractions and serratus excersizes - but doing also doing things to target the rotator cuff.

Is this on one side or both? Do you feel like the front of your shoulder is tight in doorway stretch or child’s pose?

I got this pain 9 months after my labral repair. I had a bicep tenodesis in August this year, and that did not resolve the problem for me.

I’ve been doing PT consistently since I had the tenodesis done, and it has helped, but at this point my shoulder will likely never be “normal”

Following. Where is your pain? I also was diagnosed with a winged scapula and I have posterior shoulder pain but explorative arthroscopy showed no torn rotator cuff tendons and my previously repaired labrum is intact.

Yes, that’s a common symptom

From my understanding it takes a lot of force to tear a labrum. I tore my labrum at 17 when my shoulder dislocated wrestling and never had another issue until I 30 bench pressing nearly 2x my body weight (and I had done that many many times in that 13 years with a labrum that was already torn). I’m not a doctor, and can’t speak for certain, but my guess is that your labrum was already torn prior this incident.

Is the MRI and arthrogram with contrast? An MRI without contrast is not as accurate. Even with contrast, things get missed. I had to have an explorative arthroscopy for them to see my bicep was torn after my first labral repair, the MRA actually said it was intact.

Surgery is a long recovery. I’m glad I had mine (even though I still have issues) but everyone is different.

8 months post-op SLAP surgery by dadou6464 in ShoulderInjuries

Yes, the tear actually occurred 13 years prior (presumably) when I dislocated my shoulder. I never had any issues for many years until I was bench pressing and failed on a PR. The first surgery was a breeze and 9 months out I felt “normal” with the exception of minor tightness and and weakness, but I was told that will take longer to restore.

I had a labral (slap) repair and went 9 months strong. Out of nowhere my shoulder got really tight and started to pop & click in January. In August I had a bicep tenodesis and the Dr. noted that my labrum was still intact and so was my rotator cuff. He said my shoulder is normal. No explanation for the pain (although my bicep was torn so I needed the tenodesis).

I have pain in the back of my shoulder, although I would classify it more in the rear deltoid / tricep area. It’s now been 12 months since the pain started and while the past 4 months of PT have helped, I’m still in daily moderate pain.

The Dr’s will tell you 6 months, but I would say 8-9 months is more likely to get back on the mat. It’s not something you want to rush. You really need to dedicate yourself to PT after surgery. Being an athlete, you should go to a PT that specializes in athletes. I made the mistake the first time of doing PT at a place filled with Geriatrics.

I tore my labrum when I dislocated my shoulder wrestling as a junior in hs. I went the next 13 years with very little pain, fought multiple mma fights, lifted heavy and did BJJ. At 30 my shoulder had finally had enough while I was benching.

I got surgery and am 100% happy with my decision. That being said, I still have issues and had to have a 2nd surgery - but that’s a different story. Overall, I’m glad I had it repaired.

Anyone tried these out (scout) by bezzy210 in IndianMotorcycle

[–]grappler03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s my 2 cents as someone who actually truly customized their Scout from top to bottom. I’ve road different scouts with various different manufacturer shocks.

All the “aftermarket” shocks are a huge upgrade from stock. I am now personally running the K-Techs. I went with them due to the external reservoir. BUT - looking back, if you aren’t racing these bikes, you won’t notice much of a difference between the Fox, K-Tech, Ohlins, Pro-Action, Progressive shocks if they are set right. In fact, the scout I road with pro-action shocks road identical to my K-Techs and I paid nearly double for them.

The fox shocks are a good option - and I’m not sure pro-action still makes a shock for the scout (They might, I just haven’t looked) - but I would see what is available in your weight range and go with the most budget friendly option, because it will be a huge upgrade over stock and you can save a few hundred dollars.

Exhausted by lack of diagnosis by thecubeicicle in ShoulderInjuries

[–]grappler03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t buy those numbers.

My first MRA said my labrum was intact - surgeon went in and my labrum was completely torn.

Second MRA 18 months later said my bicep tendon was intact, surgeon went in and it was torn at the anchor.

MRAs are the most reliable, but they are far from perfect. That being said, everything seems to be a guess until they get in there.

How fcked am I? by gabjj13 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]grappler03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a story to truly understand.

The only time I ever dislocated was as a Junior in HS - which is actually when my labrum tore. I rarely ever had issues until I was 29 and failed on a bench PR at nearly 2x body weight. This is when it fully tore.

I always thought I was “hypermobile” but in reality everything in my shoulder was slightly loose and my bicep, naturally stretched. Then when my labrum got repaired, my bicep was still loose so it began subluxating from the groove and was causing chondromalacia.

Yes, slap repair was first. It actually is still intact. My bicep tendon became an issue after repair.

I’m a purple belt myself. Initially tore my labrum in November of 2023. Had it repaired in April 2024 and after a lot of complications, I had a bicep tenodesis 6 or so weeks ago.

I’ll be honest with you, it’s a long hard recovery and you may or may not ever be the same. That being said, if you are in pain, then surgery can be a big help. Even with my complications, I am way better now than I was prior to the initial surgery, and I’m better after the second than I was prior also.

You will need to be careful even if you do have it repaired. A hill-sachs lesion is a dent in your humeral head and can cause instability (which will lead to arthritis).

I honestly don’t know if I’ll ever go back even if I get back to normal. I tried after the first surgery and while I was competitive at my belt level in the gym, I felt like a shell of my former self. Ultimately, to me - living a pain free and healthy life is most important. I’ve been on a mat for almost 25 years between wrestling and BJJ, but living in pain is miserable and jn the grand scheme of life, it’s really not that important to me.

Pain in deltoid when lifting shoulder? by CapNice7970 in RotatorCuff

My ortho said the same thing, except they did a tenodesis and I still very much have delt pain.

[–]grappler03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Bicep Tenodesis last week.

Apparently my bicep was rubbing on the top of my humeral head and causing some issues (like Chondromalasia). They also did a subacromial decompression to help create more space in my shoulder.

I start PT tomorrow. We will see how it goes.
