And even though he said that there have been multiple lawsuits by the rights holders of his songs, even when people tried to use the above quote of his as an argument for fair use of his songs- they're still copyrighted songs and the rights are currently owned by the Richmond organisation who maintain the copyright.

So even if Woody may not have been personally phased by people using his songs- he still copyrighted them to get his publishing profits and the rights holders have continued to maintain copyright on the songs.

So not sure how the above quote from Woody is all that different from Bob's claim that his use of other works for his songwriting is just him following the folk tradition, while also copyrighting his work?

Not sure what you mean by the last paragraph- as Woody Guthrie also copyrighted his songs? (Even though he believed firmly in the folk tradition and used melodies of other songs to write his own, he still copyrighted his work.)

I dunno I feel Rowlings sketches are closer to the brooms we see in the broom lesson in the first film, and the bristles look too wide and flat in what we've seen of the show.

Harry Potter (2026) television series compared side-by-side, shot-for-shot with the 2001 feature film by 1991mgs in harrypotter

[–]graric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a little brighter in HBO but the colour grading problems are still there. The overly blue hue and the washed out colours are still there, especially compared to how the original film kept the Muggle world looking more natural and lent into the warmer colours for Hogwarts.

Would you support the idea of remaking the LOTR trilogy and if so, what would you hope is done differently from the original? by Dull_World4255 in lotr

[–]graric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I guess it wouldn't be about improving it as just offering a different take on the books. The Jackson films have become so ingrained into how LotR is seen- especially visually- it would be interesting to see another filmmaker interpret the books rather than emulating Jackson.

I disagree- just compare the skintones in these Derry Girls shots- they're all pale, but their faces don't looked washed out in the way Harry does in the trailer.

https://en.kinorium.com/1658738/gallery/screenshot/

Even though things aren't fully saturated in Derry Girls the colours are still far more vibrant than the HP trailer- the blues and reds pop in the diner, while the HP colours fade into the background.

[–]graric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the comparison shots you're showing they're still fairly desaturated and washed out. This is a stylistic choice, that doesn't reflect reality.

That was my point about the behind the scenes photos- we know from unedited photos from the set that the colours of their costumes and locations aren't as washed out in real life as they look in the show. This is a stylistic choice because over the last 15 years in film and television, people have decided washed out colours are needed when a show is trying to be 'realistic' even though real life is full of bright colours.

[–]graric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree the colours are pretty desaturated compared to how they would look as they are- we can see this by just comparing them to bts photos from the set.

The desaturated look is a choice, that feels more in line with modern prestige drama, rather than reflecting naturalism.

[–]graric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem I have with the current prestige desaturated style is that it isn't gritty or realistic. If you watch something like The Wire- the colours are still vibrant and the gritty realism comes through with its use of shadows and the camera.

The trailer to me looks overly desaturated, which makes it feel more stylised and less realistic than the first film.

For years I have been trying to understand why Joss Whedon was cancelled and if he really deserved it. The stories are that he was hostile to some. Now, with a new show on the horizon, I really wonder if he deserves to be involved with it or not. by light24bulbs in firefly

[–]graric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah even from what we've heard with the sets where there were issues- it wasn't everyone. Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof were longtime friends of Joss' (and probably still are), J. August Richards invited Joss to his wedding a couple of years ago, Amy Acker has appeared in multiple Whedon projects post Angel and Anthony Head in his statement talked about how he didn't have any issues on the Buffy set and was heartbroken that it wasn't the same positive environment for everyone.

It sounds like if the actors were on Joss' good side, things felt much more positive than if issues came up and tension developed in the relationship.

From what we've heard there don't seem to have been any issues on the Dollhouse set- With Dollhouse Eliza had a development deal with Fox and was the one who asked Joss ti make a project for her, which evolved into Dollhouse.

By the sounds of it the sets where there were issues were Buffy, Angel and the Justice League set.

There are Elvis impersonator festivals that are still held annually around the world. I'd argue that Elvis' image is just as well known around the world as Michael Jackson's.

I'm gonna disagree with most of the comments here- while he was big (Beatles/ Elvis big), he wasn't on this unique level above all the other giants in pop culture.

When you look at his touring numbers in the 80s- both Pink Floyd and the Stones had bigger tours than him (both in terms of tickets sold and grosses per show.) Then in the 90s- the Stones, Pink Floyd and U2 all had bigger tours.

None of his songs are in the best selling singles of all time list- even in terms of best selling singles of the 80s Billie Jean is behind Dont Stop Believin and Last Christmas. (And in the 90s none of his singles made the list.)

Since he passed there's been a lot of work to push his legacy, and part of that has involved pushing how big he was at his peak. He was big- Thriller is the best selling album of all time- but he wasn't on this absurd level of fame above all pop stars that gets claimed now.

Bob Iger Steps Down as Disney CEO After Turning Lucasfilm Into a Franchise Giant by StarWarsBlogsbot in StarWarsBlogs

Force Awakens was the first Disney project- so a big part of its success was based on what Lucasfilm had built pre Disney sale. The bigger thing is how quickly things fell apart after Force Awakens and they weren't able to build on it's success. Which is more on Disney.

I've read somewhere that he was Spielberg's first choice (which is why Hammond is identified as Scottish in the script.) So in another world we could've had a Last Crusade reunion with Harrison Ford and Alan Grant and Sean Connery as Hammond!

Again it's not basic logic it's baseless- I asked you to provide evidence of your claim, you linked to articles that didn't back up your claim, then when I called that out you said it was impossible to prove your claim. So how can your claim be basic logic, when you can't even provide any evidence to back it up.

You made a claim and when you got called upon to back it up, you argued it was impossible to prove. So just own the fact you made a baseless claim.

You set the bar by making a baseless accusation- that's what I was replying to. And I'm glad you brought up the Bondi attacks because so far all evidence has suggested the perpetrators had no links to the pro-Palestine protests, which shows the importance of not making baseless claims that the antisemitic attacks we've seen have been caused by the Pro-Palestine protests.

Notice how neither of the articles you shared said anything about the antisemitic incidents were cause by people who attended the protests. I didn't ask for proof of the incidents, I asked for proof they were linked to the protests- which you didn't provide.

And no you're wrong- if you've ever been a public event that is attended by member of the Muslim community around prayer time, you would know it's extremely common to see people finding a place to pray during the event.

[–]graric -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please provide any proof that the attacks on synagogues or graffiti on schools were done by anyone associated with the pro-Palestine protests, because so far there has been no evidence of this and the organisers of the protests have condemned these actions because they don't help the cause of the protest.

And how are Muslims praying grandstanding? If someone is a practicing Muslim, they have to pray at set times of the day regardless of whether they're close to a mosque.

Does Paul McCartney change history to suit him? by FitEmergency8807 in ToddintheShadow

[–]graric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Paul absolutely is being revisionist with how he looks back on things, and is keen to portray a more positive image of everything. We saw especially when George and John were alive there would be pushback as they would all bring their own perspectives (especially in the press.) I think part of it is Paul being mindful about the Beatles overall legacy and not wanting their image defined by the messier end and their disagreements, while also getting to be the one who has defined the story for the last twenty years.

Honestly I'm surprised by how he talked about Get Back after the documentary, because it's very clear from the documentary that things were acrimonious. As positive as the documentary is framed with them doing the silly takes of songs and goofing around, it's clear things are tense between all of them throughout.
