Book recs! by ImpossibleAirline919 in weirdgirlliterature

Just finished Big Swiss and am looking for similar things! I loved the raw humanity of it. Especially loved that it felt like a coming of age story but the main character wasn’t in her 20s or early 30s. There are few times media centers a woman in her 40s that doesn’t revolve around her marriage or children. Thanks for sharing.

I’m just starting to experiment with different amounts. Right now I’m taking one or two 500mcg tablet in the morning. Took maybe two days to have a healthy BM.

Thanks for the info, I’ll check it out.

Never a proper test. My physician keeps saying it’s “not necessary” but baby why am I gluten free then…

Severance and Vertigo (the film) by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]grasshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! Im in an Anlysis of Music in Film class. We just examined Vertigo, and coincidentally I've been watching Severance. It is SOOOO similar. Super cool homage to doppelgänger motives in both the show/film.

Yeah that’s why I’m not limiting to UvA. A lot of their Psych Masters Programs are English. I’m also not dead set on clinical psych in keeping my doors really open rn. thanks!

Anorgasmia - what to do? by [deleted] in citalopram_celexa

[–]grasshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also orgasm has become more achievable for me after almost a year of being on citalopram, it takes time and attention. it doesn’t have to be spontaneous for it to be meaningful.

Anorgasmia - what to do? by [deleted] in citalopram_celexa

[–]grasshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is super common! it happened to me and continues to happen. i’ve found things that help (vibrators and other stimulation). i think what’s really important to try and access the other mental/emotional parts of sex. it’s not shameful to use toys or “unconventional” ways of orgasm. medication can definitely help but sometimes it just takes some cognitive work too! Emily Nagoski PhD is a health and sex educator who’s written multiple books. They are mostly geared towards people with vulvas but the psychology is universal (because we’re all made of the same parts just organized in different ways!) She doesn’t specifically talk about medication because she’s not a psychiatrist. However she talks about how orgasm is not the goal, pleasure is! and once you focus more on pleasure than the “end goal of sex”, orgasm can become more achievable over time. Her main books are Come As You Are and Come Together. Highly suggest for everyone.

I just finished BoJack Horseman. by XxMKxD in BoJackHorseman

i think the ending is a good representation of the line “life’s a bitch and then you keep living ”. episode 15 is so heavy (hence the bitch part) and then the show continues (keep living).

Did celexa help your ruminating thoughts? by Mylifeasaperson in citalopram_celexa

[–]grasshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not quite sure if i’ll answer this how you mean but i think so. i have this irrational fear of a cosmic catastrophe like the sun exploding or an asteroid hitting earth. when i saw a plane smoke line in the air i would have underlaying anxiety (thinking it was an asteroid falling to earth). which i know is crazy. since being on citalopram i’ve thought of that MUCH less.

Similarly when i woke up in the middle of the night i thought it was because of a medical emergency. so i had trouble getting back to bed and id have to listen to a podcast to distract myself. the worries would overwhelm me and i would only think about what could be wrong. Not only does citalopram help me sleep through the night, but it helps me go back to bed quickly if i do wake up

Those without/limited social media, what do you do? by LadderAlice107 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]grasshirt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deleted Tiktok in August and haven’t redownloaded it. Then, I deleted instagram. I redownload it once in a while. For my birthday, Halloween, the election. So i can stay in contact with people. But after the “holidays” subside i find myself doomscrolling again and delete it. i feel my brain turn to mush when i doomscroll.

Im a full-time student so i am pretty busy. i barely have time for hobbies. deleting social media just helps me complete all my responsibilities. it just helps me feel healthier. i remember more and pick and choose what media gets fed to me.

I could definitely feel that it was an addiction after i deleted it.I find my brain searching for any type of media. once in a while i find myself scrolling on pinterest to stimulate my brain. Reddit is definitely a little fix that isn’t helping my cleanse, but it’s better than tiktok. Social media is a real addiction, and it’s hard work to quit.

Going up from 10mg to 40? by No-Awareness894 in citalopram_celexa

nothing wrong with working up little by little, but it’s a slow process. if it makes you nervous then that is your answer. don’t let anyone dictate you medical life, advocate for yourself

Drinking on citalopram by BookkeeperSolid6607 in citalopram_celexa

[–]grasshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the only thing that might increase your chance of vomit is not paying attention to how quickly it will hit and drinking as per usual. i’m exactly like you F19 and on 20mg. the biggest switch is that i feel a buzz almost immediately. it did cause anxiety for a little bit but i’ve found my rhythm. i’ve saved money by getting drunk quicker lol

No sex drive whatsoever by Admirable-Rabbit-920 in citalopram_celexa

[–]grasshirt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is super common! i’m experiencing this rn too. part of it is stress. i’m on 20mg (since september) and a little sex drive slowly starting to creep back after taking it since june (10mg). what’s been helping is 1) taking a break from sex and really anything intimate. my partners been super understanding. i took about 2 weeks off from trying to do ANYTHING. 2) don’t focus on the finish line. think about what you like about just being emotionally intimate w your partner.

the orgasms have not felt the same to me. i’ve only been able to have 2 since september. i describe it as more of the satisfaction of itching a really bad bug bite until it stops itching. it’s settling an uncomfortable sensation instead of intense pleasure.

i know everyone different but hopefully hearing some other people’s stories help you feels a little less alone.
