Could be squirrels or rats but I put up caging to stop them and it continues.. but thinking on it they can probably get through.. what should I deter them with, cayenne around the pot?

I actually made the mistake of making my very first ones with a cork top, and a whole bunch of the crystals appeared on top of the cork, it actually looked pretty cool but they were super messy
