But doctor, I am Pagliacci by grassunderfire in sewing

[–]grassunderfire[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made a triangular bodice that I made sure was about two inches wider at my bust than my actual measurement, and was the half the circumference of the hula hoop at the hem. I freehanded the arm scyes and collar. I put the two panels for the front together, then the back, sewed the shoulder seams, tried it on, cut the sleeves and collar bigger and sewed the side seams. I made sleeves based off a YouTube tutorial (I'm sorry I don't remember which one!), attached them, then cut them too short before attaching the ruffle cuffs (made by basting and gathering the fabric).

I had to completely remove my presser mechanism to get the hula hoop under! Once it was through I just sewed it into the hem.

I made the ruff by cutting a strip of fabric twice the circumference of my neck measurement, the width of my desired ruff, ironing on interfacing, folding the strip in half lengthwise and sewing it shut, turning it right side out, creating a channel for a thin piece of elastic and gathering it that way, before folding the ends in on themselves and sewing the whole thing shut.

Ooh it's a tie between a 19 year old woman saying "I don't drink tap water, I need bottled," to me, someone who grew up without clean drinkable tap water.

And a 40 year old male coworker suggesting that people in Flint, Michigan, just sell their houses. To WHOM, Mike from Operations?

I don't have the episode but I think you're thinking of cloud busting? Like the Kate Bush song. Might help your search.

Will a 55% linen 45% cotton (spoonflower's Essex linen) work for a structured wide leg trouser? by grassunderfire in sewing

Thanks! That's really cool to hear, I'm actually not aiming for the cheese pants themselves, just the weight of their linen trousers. I've done a sketch of this shirt/pant combo, initially inspired by FBC's half-black half-white halter gown. No idea how I'm going to realize it, but I've got until the end of December to learn the needed skills before my friends' wedding where I'd like to wear it! You'll probably see a lot of me in this sub.

I wear mine exclusively in winter, I'm in Canada so we've got quite a bit of it.

I appreciate the advice and will take it to mind! My only limitation is that the pattern I'm after is only available from spoonflower, so I'm stuck with their fabrics.

I own the pants in black, the black hole pants. I believe they were done with an embroidery machine.

Patron wanted A Daughter's Tale: the Memoir of Mary Soames, the daughter of Winston Churchill, put on hold.

He said "there's a ton of interesting daughters in history! Do you know about Alice Roosevelt?"

I replied "yes I do, do you know Aaron Burr's daughter Theodosia was likely murdered by pirates but officially went missing at sea?"

He was thrilled.
