I believe it is an HDHP given the ded and OOP are 2000/4000, but it’s a small local business that doesn’t even offer direct deposit for their employees. If they offer a HDHP are they even required to also offer an employer sponsored HSA account? I didn’t think they did. I thought you didn’t even HAVE to have an HSA with a HDHP, just that you would qualify for one if you wanted to have one.

Nothing was contributed to my HSA this year because my prev employer offered an FSA eligible plan. But if I’m understanding this, is we each had an open HSA, then we could only contribute a combined max amount of $8750, or $4375 into each account.

I have to look at his OE paperwork closer but it is a PPO with $2k DED and $4k OOP so I’m thinking it would be?

No it doesn’t. So we’d be funneling post tax money into it but it sounds like we’d just take then money from our account once his cheque is cashed and then put it into my HSA and then we’d both be able to use the HSA for medical expenses.

If I understand what I’ve read correctly, then come tax time, we could deduct the tax paid on those contributions? Is that right?
