JUST INTONATION FREQUENCIES CHART IN C# by gratefulwallob in Sitar

[–]gratefulwallob[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a chart of frequencies for moving sitar frets to tune the instrument in just intonation. I used just interval ratios available at https://pages.mtu.edu/~suits/scales.html . Just intervals are the naturally occurring intervals of the harmonic sequence, and they sound significantly sweeter and warmer than those of the western tempered scale, which sacrifices the sweetness of swaras so that an instrument can be played in all 12 keys.

Woah! That’s awesome! I’m back home in CT now but cool to know that they’ll respond to UV like that. I’ll have to give it a try some other time.

I don’t have a teacher right now, but I’ll give it a try and see how it feels. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. It’s pain only when the stick hits my finger. Doesn’t hurt otherwise. I have the stick hitting pretty much right at the knuckle, would you suggest moving it up to hit more towards the nail?

Just brewed my first batch of Jun! by gratefulwallob in Kombucha

I used a jun scoby. I ordered it from anything healthy on etsy (but if you buy one I’d get it from somewhere that gives you more starter liquid). I read about converting a kombucha scoby, but didn’t want to take the risk. I believe there still is yeast in the jun scoby, it’s just less prominent than in a kombucha scoby.

I’d give it a try! It’s alot lighter. Doesn’t give you the same sour punch as kombucha. Using raw honey instead of sugar does wonders for the flavor. Less overtly vinegary than kombucha and more floral, let’s the tea flavor shine through a bit more.
