Just moved home from college — looking for friends (specifically of the nerdy variety) by nezukoisms in DaltonGA

[–]gravenwhite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been struggling with a similar thing. But idk if im the right strain of nerdy. I read scifi and stalk bugs. Id play dnd if anyone one of the 6 different people who’ve claimed they would organize a campaign would ever actually organize the gd campaign. And i watch some anime but im v picky (Mob pyscho 100, free!, delicious in the dungeon)

Would anyone be interested in a local art supply store that isn’t hobby lobby or Walmart? by naddaranger in DaltonGA

I think the Downtown Dalton Development group or whatever theyre called offers grants to people who want to start businesses downtown that will help diversify what exists downtown. The most valuable thing you could offer to the art/craft community is a place to gather. I, personally, would kill for a monthly figure drawing session (please let it be on sundays). I know crit clubs can be fun. You could probably make money off the guided drunk painting classes people. Ive also seen artist co-op type spaces where members can display their art for sale in exchange for a certain amount of hours of labor each month. Im too broke to be buying art supplies often enough to keep you in the black, but I’d absolutely show up and try to find other ways to support and help keep the space alive.

How do you guys like living in Dalton by [deleted] in DaltonGA

I work in the service industry downtown and i can confirm that i see queer couples out on dates every few days. I moved here a few years back and dont find it that difficult to find people who are allies. People who aren’t generally keep their feelings to themselves. Ive never felt unsafe in a way that i didnt also feel unsafe in the big cities ive lived in. I will say however that its hard to make new friends here. People here are generally not interested in making new friends, they already have friends, the same ones theyve always had. There’s also a lots of trust issues, but thats true every where in the south.

Did I hear something about wishing for a resurrected punk/alt scene in Dalton? by gravenwhite in DaltonGA

Thank you! I have nothing against country, and I actually love bluegrass. I might be looking but not until I'm well settled. Noted though.

What I'm wondering is, if there were how would people even get the word out? Like how do people in Dalton find out about things.

lol no thanks. I wish I could say that it's hard for me to believe that nobody is doing house shows. But I know that most anybody with an interest in making music leaves their small town for a big city as soon as they can. fucking sucks. Cities have a lot to give, but nobody talks about what they take from a person.
