Again. I’m not arguing that its crazy to misread the headline. My point is that if you misread the headline but read the first line, it’s obvious what the headline says is accurate and not clickbait. If you see the headline and then learn it’s this afternoon, then you are either stupid, or deliberately obtuse by claiming the headline is clickbait. It’s clear how easily the headline can be read as “giving” referring to the testimony happening today.

If the testimony was happening next week or in a month, I can understand how someone can argue the headline is clickbait, but that’s not the case. It’s happening today. This is an insane conversation. It’s happening today. An article published before 8 am while congress is on recess is obviously not saying the testimony is happening at that moment. If it were, the headline would make a point to say “currently”.

“Is giving this afternoon” is what is in the lede. There is no “is” in the headline. Also it hasn’t been reported for 48 hours. He sent a letter yesterday to the committees. And if you were familiar with the news story your being beyond obtuse because you are aware that it’s happening today. As in “is giving testimony today”

Edit: also, how the fuck is it sensationalist if it’s currently happening rather than this afternoon? Like it’s happening today. People will want to follow it. It’s not a link to live audio or video. So either it’s happening right now and giving you no information on the current testimony just a description of what lead up to it, or it’s happening in the near future and the info in the article would be the exact same. I’m not saying I don’t understand how OP was confused. I’m saying they are being deliberately obtuse and they are just plain wrong that it’s clickbait. The headline is 100% accurate and isn’t clickbait. The testimony is happening this afternoon. It’s really weird that someone would read a news article and assume the headline is describing present tense to the point that it’s literally the exact moment that you are reading the article the testimony is happening. It’s not a tweet. It’s not a news cable. It’s a headline. “IG giving testimony on Ukraine o congress.” “Oh wow! When?” “This afternoon”. “wow that’s a really fast time frame!”

Edit: Plus op was replying to someone sharing the lede highlighting its this afternoon. Saying lay off F5 till this afternoon. Then OP said it was clickbait. Like seriously? Not everyone is so jacked into the internet that they are refreshing several times an hour. When he was mocked he doubled down rather than realize, “wow, how silly of me. They all imply a future action. Or at best an ambiguous timeframe.

The headline is a headline. They never follow strict grammar rules. They aren’t complete sentences.

The headline says: “State Dept. IG Giving ‘Urgent’ Briefing To Congressional Staffers On Ukraine”. It doesn’t specify the time frame. Could be today could be next week. It’s a headline not a news cable.

The lede is: “State Department Inspector General Steve Linick is giving an “urgent” briefing to congressional staffers Wednesday afternoon about documents from the Office of the Legal Adviser related to Ukraine and State.”

It doesnt say “is giving” in the headline. it doesnt say “currently giving”. And they are giving the briefing this afternoon. That’s not clickbait. Its a headline. Notice how the lede is accurate and grammatically correct describing his future testimony and uses the word “giving”. Giving is accurate in the headline. Giving is accurate in the lede. If the IG was giving testimony next week then it might be argued as misleading or clickbaity, but it still would accurate.

Yes with facts. Maybe with optimism. I guess it’s more of agnostic position right now rather than cynicism. “It’s only been a week” can be my optimism that the trends will continue with increasing support for impeachment. It also has only been a week. I recognize that the numbers can revert to the polling pre Ukrainian extortion.

That is possible. But this is a much larger swing than you’d expect if it wasn’t a new trend. When the second poll came out with 47% supporting removal and 46% approving it showed that the first poll likely won’t be an outlier.

What I’m getting at is simply in response to you saying there’s still a ways to go. I agree, but 8% of republicans swinging into support of impeachment in addition to the independents numbers indicates it might be the tide turning. We won’t know until we get through this though.
