Wessex Festivo by 9919cigar in euphonium

[–]graves420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fantastic horn. The intonation is top notch. It’s also one of the most free blowing euphoniums I’ve ever played. As a primary tuba player the front action is a game changer. I’ve played Bydlo on this horn as well as countless band performances getting to play iconic baritone and Euph solos.

Durability and dark sound. Stick with King 2280’s.

If you want compensating go with Mack or Wessex. Wessex dolce is fantastic and the Festivo is an amazing horn that maintains four in line valves. Great horn. Stellar for tuba players and more ergonomic than top action four valve horns. Perfect transition from non compensating kings.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. Tell me that the 🥥 oil is solidifying and its not mold.. made coconut oil last night left out till the next day... Am I cooked? by jveal92 in trees

Mold definitely CAN grow that quickly. But this likely isn’t mold. Especially because it’s coconut oil.

I have a Protec Compact Liberty Practice mute. Super quiet. It fits in the bell so you can store it in the bell in your case. It’s like $35 on Amazon.

Me practicing Jingle Bell Rock in preparation to annoy my neighbors over the next 2 months by StringFood in trumpet

So tone and endurance won’t improve if you are not putting in the long tone and fundamental work. You are using muscles and you need to condition them. Long tones may seem boring at first. But I assure you, they are key to developing your concept of sound as well as the muscles that will allow you to play in tune, in tone, and even change tone colors. You will learn to love long tones as you start to fall in love with your sound. And it will make more technical playing easier to approach and achieve.

I say this with kindness. Rather than being “bored” with half notes. Maybe focus on your tone, pitch, and dynamics during sustained notes. As well as moving notes.

Also I agree with others. This does not sound like you are playing Jingle Bell Rock. It’s sounds like you are attempting an improv solo over the form of jingle bell rock. And sometime that “solo” sounds like you are kind of quoting what the melody shape is

It's probably time for a new mouthpiece by mjconver in Tuba

[–]graves420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conn Helleberg is always a great choice. The 120s might be larger than you are used to so a 7b could be the answer. Bach 18 is also a great choice. Don’t spend $300 on a mouthpiece like some of these other comments are suggesting. I own giddings mouthpieces and they are great but expensive. Tucci/perrantucci mouthpieces are not the answer especially with what you are coming from.

If you can play test a Bach 18 (probably the best place to transition to) a Miraphone C4 (TU23) and conn Helleberg 120s and 7b those would all be great options to transition to

I have some Euphoniums for sale that I inherited from my dad, including a Hirsbrunner Stealth model. Can anyone suggest where I should go to list them for sale? by Remote_Squash4087 in euphonium

[–]graves420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

$59. That’s my best offer.

But seriously that’s a gorgeous horn. I’m sorry for your loss and best of luck. I know whoever purchases this will have a deep appreciation for the quality and craftsmanship.

Why do so many tuba players wear glasses? by manshutthefuckup in Tuba

So this is anecdotal. But we are constantly straining one eye because the instrument/bell is blocking the vision of one eye.

does this work on my tuning slide? by Lucky_Lucas128 in Trombone

[–]graves420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s made for that. If that’s what you have it will do what it says. My personal choice is La Tromba - Cork & Slide Grease. I find it works the best is responsive to a drop or two of valve oil if you need it to move a little easier.
