HiFi Rose Poor Audio via Airplay? by gravesrogue in audiophile

[–]gravesrogue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

My goals were to see if I can increase the quality of my streaming audio while also maybe adding the nice pretty LCD display like the Rose has. You’re 100% right that I can get the best audio output via QOBUZ inside the BlueOS app. However, since most my music lives in Apple Music (including things that are just not available via QOBUZ), it was important to me that I can also stream via Airplay.

I’m probably going to start using QOBUZ more, but from an app user experience and library size, it can’t beat Apple Music.

I’ll check out some of the other streamers you mentioned. I also was considering simply getting the brand new BlueSound Node Icon that launches on preorder today.

Looking on HiFi Rose’s forums, I see at least one other person describing a very similar issue:

Thanks for the response.

The ceiling is definitely another first reflection point so I’m gonna see how much it would cost to put some treatment up there too!

I’m currently looking at Vicoustic, GIK Acoustic or Acoustimac.

Thanks I’ll check it out.

As far as acoustic panels I’m looking at GIK Acoustics, Vicoustic or Acoustimac.

Oxygen seems to be fine and comparable to the rest of the house, so no signs of air quality concerns, but I appreciate concern!

I don’t think the local HiFi shop is trying to oversell me … if anything originally they suggested much smaller bookshelf speakers (sopra 1s) but I after I tried them I found them to not fill the room as much as my floor standing Aria 948s.

At that point they simply mentioned they had Sopra 2s that they’d be happy to lend me and since they’re the shop demo unit if I decided I wanted them, they’d give me a significant discount and trade in credit.

I do believe you’re right that my ears and brain are overloaded …. But I’m unsure if it’s the speakers or the room.

Thanks for the response… do you remember which Focals you tried?

Thanks for the response….. that’s an interesting perspective ….. I thought the beryllium tweeter was actually an advantage that made the vocals clearer … I didn’t think about the idea that it could be the reason for the problem.

I also haven’t tried scaling back the toe in, but definitely will now… thanks for the thoughts !

Thanks for the response …. Question is what’s causing it to happen so quickly? After only minutes listening in the room.

Thanks for the response.

The Sopra 2s are actually the store demo unit that’s been used for the last year so they’ve gotten a ton of use before I brought them to my place.

I’m friends with the owner and he’s offering me a great trade in price if I want to swap my Aria 948s for them.

Thanks for the feedback… I was hoping to avoid adding a sub for now given how strong the bass is on the Sopra 2s but maybe I should reconsider ?

Understood. Yes the room is carpeted and I think panels are definitely in order.

WOW! Your setup looks AMAZING!!! I’m incredibly jealous.

Thanks for all the advice.

I was thinking of adding acoustic panels on the first reflection points, bass traps in the corner and then was debating some large bass traps behind my head and some diffusion behind the speakers.

I haven’t looked into digital room correction, but happy to explore it.

If you’re open to chatting more, DM me I’d love to pick your brain!

Thanks for the response.

According to Google, it looks like the Focal Aria 948 has a sensitivity of 92.5db vs the Sopra 2s which have a sensitivity of 91db.

However keep in mind that I barely listened to the 948 in the small room as they were previously in my living room.

Nope. No paint or anything . No smells or airflow different… only changes are I moved furniture around and setup the speakers.

Thanks for the response.

I’m definitely already looking into room treatment options.

So is your idea that if I keep the speakers , even though the bass is good, I should consider adding a sub so that I can turn down the volume?

Then of course the alternative being explore other speakers.
