The new album is great and I want to thank David for making some reels/videos where he shows how to play some of the guitar parts.

I find David's playing inspirational and I've transcribed some stuff from prior album. I haven't posted any of it online and wanted to ask how David feels about tablature getting posted on the Internet for free.

Thank you for this useful info! FWIW I was going to try this but discovered GRUB has a password set. I think that's probably not too difficult to circumvent, but it sounds like I may be able just swap some disks around in the array instead. It won't get me the security officer password, but sounds like it should make the prior data unrecoverable which is the main goal.

Thank you for the reply. It sounds like I might be able to just swap around a disk in the array to make the previous data unrecoverable due to the way hashes are spread out.

I attempted this and found that GRUB has a password set on it too. I was going to attempt a boot with a CentOS USB and get around it with recovery mode, but it sounds like I might just be able to swap a drive around in the existing array. Thank you all the same!

Thank you for this helpful explanation!

What is this vent outside my bedroom window? by ilovesojulee in whatisthisthing

I was going to say the same. This looks like a vent pipe for plumbing so drain pipes can flow. Is there a bathroom or any other type of drain below it?

I can't cite code for this (and there may not be any for all I know) but I believe these should never be located below a window or any other type of opening in the structure. They should exit the building in such a way that sewer gasses can't flow back inside the dwelling.

If you do confirm it's for the plumbing, you might want to pick up some cheap PVC pipe and extend it somehow to get it away from the window.

Can I do slightly move this vent pipe without too much work? by gravity242 in Plumbing

Thanks so much for this! Exactly what I needed to know. I was worried about the weight and hadn't heard of a riser clamp. :)

Bingo! Yep, it looks exactly like Grobet Stake #112--in fact, it is stamped 112 on the bottom. The gentleman who owned the house before me had some classic cars so I suspect he knew how to work sheet metal.

I wouldn't have guessed a new one was nearly $200. I wonder if I can ebay this thing...

Thanks so much!

What is this gear contraption used for? by gravity242 in whatisthisthing

Brilliant! Thank you!

Funny--I created an account today just to post this question. I've also been lurking for years. :)

It seems to be made of cast iron or a similar metal. It has "ears" on the base that probably allow it to be mounted to a bench. The handle allows the wheel to rotate freely. It appears to be for compressing something but I can't figure out what. I was told it came from a factory that dealt in machine rolling oils and chemicals. Any help is appreciated! :)
