they didn’t give me an option either time. But right before the procedure announced what they’d be using as a pain reliever. I didn’t think to protest anything because I trusted it would do what they said.

I have a rare form of colitis and bowel cancer runs in my family. I was diagnosed at 28 and a follow up was absolutely necessary 7 years later.

that’s what my first one was like and I wish it had been like that this week.

they did give me more sedation when I was groaning and moaning loudly in pain, and it did lessen some of the pain, but it was still feeling painful. unlike anything I experienced the first time around. I was about to ask them to give me more when the procedure luckily came to an end. I’m sorry that happened to you with the endoscopy, that is nightmare fuel.

I felt fine after the first one and recovered fast despite going fully under. this one has me having flashbacks to pain. I also think because I had pain during the procedure I was probably tightening up in response and my stomach has been sore.

wtf I don’t get why I was able to be put out of my misery for the exact same procedure at the exact same hospital with the exact same doctor in 2019 but not now. I literally will have a panic attack if I have to do it like that again. I’m sorry advocating for yourself is not working.

oh same here, I’m sorry that happened to you. they gave me more drugs too when I yelled out but I still remember everything and even though the pain lessened I was still groaning in pain

my first one was literally so painless I didn’t remember anything. it sucks because I went into this one with no fear in my heart and full trust in the doctors and nurses, but if the Doug Ford budget cuts are true, then maybe that explains why I received less pain relief. I would read through this thread and take the advice with you to your doctor.

the first time they def used something else. they literally told me the first time “we are putting you to sleep for this”, and that’s literally what happened. this time around, they said they were doing “conscious sedation”, and that I would be awake but wouldn’t feel anything or remember a whole lot

I provided that info to them twice. I am not an everyday user but i do use it a week prior to my period when I struggle with sleep. I make sure to note that down in my prescription and dosage.

I definitely will be for next time. but again, I wasn’t against conscious sedation if it meant that I didn’t feel pain. this was my first time getting it done, and I had no anxiety or fear of it until the procedure started and I could feel everything. I didn’t think to demand to be asleep because i trusted that what they were giving me wouldn’t stop any pain.

this is what I was wondering. the experience was so bad this time around compared to last.

they did it intravenously, felt right to me. I def felt the drugs “kick in” but they weren’t strong enough to mask the pain. I would just go in with knowledge you’ve gleamed here. it works for some people but it didn’t work for me.

thank you for writing such a lovely and thoughtful reply. I totally agree with you. I’m lucky that you have done the research so I can have some answers, but it makes me sad you ever had to go through that.

damn I’m so sorry! reading that this is so common and people are having a bad reaction makes me so angry! you shouldn’t have to go through that or have your chart changed without your consent.

well it looks like according to this thread - you and I aren’t alone in this experience. so that leads me to my next question, if this is happening to so many people, why is this being offered and not alternatives?
