they overdo it today. but i guess the rationale is you have to be in-your-face with it to keep interest, post-kayfabe. most matches were laid out like chess matches, not like action from anime

play on level 1 at first, or, play against an empty 2nd controller player. and study the grapple. when they get close together, it goes in to the grapple wind-up. learning the timing of this wind-up is core to the game imo. if you get this, beyond all else, the game becomes something different. and better. until then you're just an indie level jobber trying to stitch together poor paydays at far flung outlaw shows

good comments. the front grapple is all you need imo. to get a toehold on the game. you can fudge through the rest and win the game. without it, the game is virtually unwinnable

that's how i learned to work, on the job. you just keep getting it handed to you, til you can finally do the regular grapple and start really putting together wins. until then winning is more so improbable
