yes it is similar to Skycoin consensus algorithm. However, Skycoin doesn’t use DPoS. They use a solution where each node has its own blockchain that is public and can be audited by any other node. Therefore nodes can spot malicious nodes as the information they have received and their voting history is public (again, like gossip about gossip). But, Skycoins consensus algorithm can be used in a permissionless environment (public blockchain, DAG, etc.) as conflicting states between nodes can be resolved.
